TV boys split two with Ed-Co, Kee; compete at NFV Tourney

 

EDGEWOOD - The Turkey Valley baseball team split a twinbill against Ed-Co on June 19 as the Trojans lost game one, 6-7; and they rallied to win game two, 4-3.
Hosting Oelwein in a non-conference game on June 20, the Trojans lost to the Huskies, 1-4. Playing two games at Lansing Kee on June 23, Turkey Valley lost to Kee, 1-4, in game one, but the Trojans bounced back to win game two, 10-0.
Competing at the North Fayette Valley Tournament on Saturday, June 24, the Trojans lost to MFL-Mar-Mac, 5-6; and they fell to No. 3 Cascade, 1-18, in four innings.
 
EC 7, TV 6 (G1)
In game one, Ed-Co rallied from a three-run deficit to edge the Trojans, 7-6.
Ed-Co led 2-0 in the fourth before Turkey Valley scored five runs in the top of the sixth. Ed-Co came back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win.
“We fought back to take the lead, but we couldn’t make enough plays to pull out the victory,” TV Coach Dan Stepan said.
Cody Hackman had two runs and two hits for the Trojans. Evan Drilling had one hit and two runs batted in. Cale Reicks had one hit and one run.
Wyatt Blazek tallied two hits and two RBI. Evan Busta had one run. Jaden Bruess had one run, two hits and one RBI. Garrison Kruse scored one run.
Josh Vsetecka was the losing pitcher. He tossed two and one-third innings in relief, allowed four hits, five runs (three earned), three walks and struck out one. Cale Reicks pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowed nine hits, two runs (one earned), no walks and struck out four.

TV 4, EC 3 (G2)
In game two, the Trojans rallied for four runs in the sixth to nip Ed-Co, 4-3.
Ed-Co took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning before Turkey Valley stormed back.
“The kids showed some guts by coming back to win,” Coach Stepan said. “They stayed positive and put together a quality inning battling to take the lead and held on for a tough victory.”
Cody Hackman tallied one run, one hit and one RBI. Evan Drilling scored one run and had one hit. Cale Reicks had one run.
Wyatt Blazek posted one run, one hit and two RBI. Mason Goerend had one hit and one RBI. Evan Busta and Luke Anderson each had one hit.
Evan Drilling was the winning pitcher. He went three innings in relief, allowed no hits, no runs, three walks and struck out three. Evan Busta pitched four innings, allowed one hit, three runs (one earned), and struck out four.

Oelwein 4, TV 1
The Trojans were unable to gain any momentum on offense as Oelwein defeated Turkey Valley, 4-1, on June 20.
“We pitched well and played good defense, but we just didn’t get the hits when we needed them,” Coach Stepan said.
Oelwein scored single runs in the first, second, third and seventh innings. Turkey Valley scored one run in the first.
Evan Drilling had two hits, including one double, and he scored one run. Cody Hackman had one hit and one RBI. Mason Goerend had one hit.

In the first game, Kee took a 3-1 lead after four innings and held off the Trojans to earn a 4-1 victory.
“We played well, but we just didn’t get the big hit when we needed it,” Coach Stepan said. “We stayed right in the game until our last out.”
Kee led 2-0 after one inning before the Trojans scored one run in the third. Kee added single runs in the third and fourth.
Evan Drilling recorded two hits, including one double, and scored one run. Cale Reicks and Jordon Snyder each had one hit. Cody Hackman had one run and one RBI.
Cale Reicks was the losing pitcher. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowed five hits, four earned runs, three walks and struck out two. Josh Vsetecka tossed two innings and struck out one. Jaden Bruess went one-third of an inning and struck out one batter.

In game two, the Trojans plated five runs in the top of the seventh on their way to a 10-0 win over the Kee Hawks.
TV scored two runs in the first, one in the second and two in the fifth.
“This was our most complete game of the season,” Stepan said. “We pitched well, played great defense, and hit the ball like we are capable. It is fun to play and coach when you put a game like that together. You don't get many wins like that in New Albin. More than likely, they will be conference champs.”
Evan Drilling had one double, one run and one RBI. Cale Reicks had three hits, two runs and one RBI. Cody Hackman had three hits, two runs and one RBI.
Wyatt Blazek tallied one run. Mason Goerend had two hits and one run. Simon Schmitt had two hits. Evan Busta posted two doubles and one run. Jaden Bruess had two hits and one RBI. Jordon Snyder and Garrison Kruse each scored one run.

NFV Tourney
MFL-MM 6, TV 5
Playing in the North Fayette Valley Tournament Saturday, the Trojans lost a tough contest to MFL-MM, 5-6.
The Bulldogs took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning before the Trojans tallied two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game. MFL-MM scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to win.
“We fell down early and battled back, but probably dug ourselves too big of a hole to start with,” Stepan noted.
Cale Reicks had two hits and one run. Evan Drilling scored two runs. Cody Hackman had one run, two hits, including one double and two RBI. Wyatt Blazek had one run, one hit and one RBI. Mason Goerend had one hit. Simon Schmitt had one double and one RBI.

Cascade 18, TV 1
Facing No. 3 Cascade in the second game of the tourney, the Trojans were unable to slow down the Cougars as Cascade won easily, 18-1.
“We have now played the No. 1 (New Hampton) and No. 3-ranked (Cascade) teams in 2A,” Stepan said. “Cascade is really good. They won by the 10 run rule over 1A No. 3-ranked Don Bosco right before they played us.”
Turkey Valley scored one run in the first inning. Cascade tallied seven runs in the first, six in the second and five in the third.
Cale Reicks had Turkey Valley’s only hit. Wyatt Blazek had one RBI. Evan Drilling scored one run.
