    A car collided with a van at the intersection of Pine Place and 4th Ave. W. at about 4 p.m. last Friday.

Most often people can smell a gas leak because of the unpleasant odor. This odor is added to natural gas to alert people that they are in an area where gas is leaking.

    Six high school freshmen were transferred to Regional Health Services of Howard County last Wednesday afternoon after a 15-year-old driver lost control of her car.

    A money transfer scam that can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars for unaware victims has showed up in Howard County recently.

    Crestwood Alternative High School will relocate next fall, leaving its current downtown location and moving into the Heritage Events Center.

    Crestwood students have raised over $26,000 for Camp Jornada as a result of the schools' Cadets for a Cause fundraiser.

    Participants let loose and laugh at a laughter yoga workshop held last week at the Heritage Events Center. Certified laughter yoga leader and teacher Laura Gentry led the interactive yoga laughter workshop, which she says can improve both physical and mental health of those taking part. Nearly 80 people participated in the event that the Cresco Chamber of Commerce and Northeast Iowa Community College hosted in honor of Administrative Professionals Day.

    The week of April 27 through May 3 has been named Volunteer Appreciation Week with a theme of “Volunteers Plant the Seeds of Kindness.”

    Crestwood High School’s Consumer Science class cleaned up trash and raked leaves around town with Randy Mashek, Cresco Chamber of Commerce director, on Monday as part of National Volunteer Week.

    It’s no surprise Protivin resident Mike Hudecek feels most at home when he’s on his snowmobile. After all, he was introduced to the sport before he even was born.
    Theresa Hudecek, the mother of 21-year-old Mike and an avid snowmobiler herself, said her son’s first trip out on the hills took place while he was still in the womb.
    He’s come a long way since then.
    He began snowmobiling on his own when he was old enough to walk, on a mini-snowmobile for kids. He began racing in 2004, and has since snowmobiled in numerous competitions, placing first in several of them. Mike currently races in the pro division in hillcross and semi-pro in snowcross.

  Representatives from the Pave the Way bike trail committee presented a check for $180,000 to the Winneshiek County Conservation Board at the Prairie Springs Recreational Trail annual meeting April 23. The funds presented was the total amount raised by Cresco, Calmar and Ridgeway residents combined.
  Skyline Construction of Decorah was awarded the bid to begin laying concrete from the Cresco city limits to the two-mile corner. They plan to finish laying concrete by no later than Aug. 1.
