Turkey Valley track squads advance to State in eight events

EDGEWOOD - Competing against many strong teams at the Class 1A State Qualifying Track Meet Thursday at Ed-Co, the Turkey Valley boys’ team advanced to State in seven events while the TV girls’ team qualified for State in one event.

In the boys’ meet, TV senior Wyatt Blazek took first in the 100 dash in 11.57 seconds to punch his ticket to State. Kyle Langreck advanced in the 110 hurdles by placing fourth. Luke Anderson placed third in the discus (132 feet, 7 inches) to advance. 

The Trojan boys’ team advanced four relays to State including: 4x200 (second place, 1:33.25); 4x100 (second, 45.47); 4x800 (first, 8:39.61) and the sprint medley (third, 1:37.75). The 4x200 and sprint medley teams include: Evan Drilling, Cody Hackman, Cale Reicks and Wyatt Blazk.  The 4x800 team included: Elliott Dietzenbach, John Gossling, Jordon Snyder, Zach Gillen. The 4x100 team includes: Evan Drilling, Cody Hackman, Cale Reicks and Wyatt Blazek. As a team, the TV boys placed fifth in the team standings with 74 points.

In the girls’ meet, the distance medley team of Lydia Schuchhardt, Kassidy Reicks, Sadie Nymeyer and Shelby Reicks placed fourth in 4:31.68 to qualify for State. Alternates are Karissa Schmidt and Katlyn Baumler.

Turkey Valley Girls’ Coach Brian Schmitt was happy to see the distance medley team advance to State. The TV girls’ team will compete at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 19 in Des Moines.

“I am glad Sadie and Shelby can cap off their outstanding track careers on the blue oval. Not many girls can say they qualified for state all four years. I would also like to thank all those that went out this year. What a fun and memorable year!”

Several Trojans recorded personal records including: Elli Winter in the 800 (3:05.96), Liza Herold in the 1500 (6:39.17), the distance medley team, the shuttle hurdle team (1:27.39), Addie Einwalter in the shot put (22-11) and Einwalter in the discus (65-9).
