Turkey Valley girls lose three at Crestwood Softball Tournament

 

CRESCO - Taking on strong competition at the Crestwood Tournament on June 2, the Turkey Valley softball team battled hard before losing three games.
The Trojans lost game one to Class 3A No. 10 Crestwood, 4-13; fell to Class 1A No. 14 Mason City Newman, 2-3; and lost to South Winn, 8-12, to drop their overall record to 0-4.

In game one, Turkey Valley trailed 1-5 after four innings before Crestwood broke open the game with seven runs in the sixth on its way to a 13-4 win.
“We played well except for one bad inning when we gave up seven runs,” TV Coach Junior Hackman said. “I was proud we fought back and scored a couple runs to make the game go seven innings.”
TV senior Emily Busta ripped a solo home run in the fourth inning. Jaedyn tallied two hits, including one double. Kim Fischer and Nicole Panos each scored one run. Breanna Busta had one hit.
Kim Fischer was the losing pitcher. She went six innings, allowed 10 hits, eight earned runs and walked five. Kelsey Kurtenbach tossed one inning, allowed one hit, one run and one walk.

Taking on No. 14 Mason City Newman in game two, the Trojans battled hard before falling to the Knights, 2-3.
“This was our third game of the year and our third ranked opponent,” Hackman said. “This game featured the varsity debut for eighth grade pitcher Josie Weber. She pitched a great game by holding Newman to three hits while striking out seven. We out-hit them, but we just couldn’t get enough runs across the plate.”
Winter tallied two hits and one run. Kassidy Reicks had one hit and one RBI. Emily Busta, Kurtenbach and Aleah Hackman each had one hit.
Weber was the losing pitcher. She went six innings, allowed three hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out seven.

SW 12, TV 8
Facing South Winn in game three on June 2, the Trojans fell behind 9-0 in the top of the second before rallying late, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors held on for a 12-8 win.
“The game started about as bad as possible with us giving up eight runs in the top of the first,” Coach Hackman said. “ We fought back well and cut the deficit to four runs when the time limit ran out. Jordan Lukes had a big game by going three for three with three RBI.
Lukes finished with three hits, including one double and one triple, two runs and three RBI. Emily Busta had two hits, one run and two RBI. Breanna Busta had one hit and one run. Nicole Panos had one run and one RBI. Shayla Kuennen scored one run. Katlyn Baumler had one RBI. Avery Reicks had one run and one hit.
Kurtenbach was the losing pitcher. She pitched one-third of an inning, allowed two hits, eight runs (five earned) and walked five.
