Trojan boys lose to NH; beat N-P, Clayton Ridge; split two at Cresco

 

CRESCO - The Turkey Valley baseball team was unable to slow down a strong New Hampton squad on May 26 as the Chickasaws downed the Trojans, 16-1, in four innings at the New Hampton Tournament. In game two, the Trojans bounced back to crush Nashua-Plainfield, 11-1.
Playing a doubleheader at Clayton Ridge on May 29, the Trojans lost the first game, 5-12; and won game two, 5-0.
Facing off against New Hampton on May 31, TV lost to the Chickasaws, 1-15, in four innings.
Competing at Crestwood on June 2, the Trojans defeated Crestwood, 9-0; and they lost to South Winn, 0-12, in five innings to drop TV’s overall record to 3-4.
 
NH 16, TV 1
New Hampton scored three runs each in the first three innings and earned a 16-1 win over Turkey Valley in four innings on May 26.
“We allowed too many free bases (to New Hampton), and we didn’t hit the ball enough,” TV Coach Dan Stepan said. 
Jordon Snyder singled to record TV’s only hit. Evan Drilling scored one run and was hit by a pitch. Mason Goerend had one stolen base.
Carter Reicks was the losing pitcher. He went two innings, allowed six hits, six earned runs and struck out one.

In game two, the Trojans scored 10 runs in the third on their way to an 11-1 win over Nashua-Plainfield in five innings on May 26.
“We had much better execution this game,” Stepan said. “We found an offensive spark with Elliott Dietzenbach picking up two hits and three RBI.”
Cale Reicks had one hit, two runs and three runs batted in. Elliott Dietzenbach had one double, one run and three RBI. Evan Drilling and Mason Goerend each had one double, one run and one RBI.
Seth Huinker and Kyle Langreck each had one run. Jordon Snyder had one run and one RBI. Simon Schmitt had one run, one hit and one RBI.
Cale Reicks was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, one walk and struck out seven.

In game one, the Trojans scored four runs in the first before Clayton Ridge rallied to earn a 12-5 victory.
“We got off to a great offensive start but again didn’t pitch well enough to win,” Coach Stepan said. “The second game we got a great pitching performance from Cale Reicks and we played great defense behind him.”
Simon Schmitt had two hits and one RBI. Jordon Snyder had one hit and two runs. Goerend had one hit and one run. Cale Reicks and Luke Anderson each had one hit. Evan Drilling scored one run. Anderson had one RBI.
Evan Drilling was the losing pitcher. He tossed two innings, allowed four hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out one. Snyder went one and two-thirds innings, allowed one hit and three walks.

In game two, the Trojans broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth during a 5-0 win over Clayton Ridge.
Evan Drilling had one hit, one run and one RBI. Cale Reicks, Keegan Balk and Mason Goerend each had one hit and one run. Kyle Langreck and Luke Anderson each tallied one hit. Elliott Dietzenbach had one RBI. Kannon Leuenberger scored one run.
Cale Reicks was the winning pitcher. He went seven innings, allowed only one hit, one walk and struck out 12.

NH 15, TV 1
New Hampton was too strong for the Trojans on May 31 as the Chickasaws jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to a 15-1 win.
“We have to find a way to limit our opponent’s big innings,” Stepan said. “I thought we swung the bats decent, but we didn’t play very good defense.”
Luke Anderson had three hits and one run for TV. Cale Reicks and Evan Drilling each had two hits. Elliott Dietzenbach had one hit and one RBI. Kyle Langreck had one hit.
Carter Reicks was the losing pitcher. He tossed one inning, allowed three hits, eight runs (two earned) and three walks. Keegan Balk pitched one inning, allowed one hit, four runs (three earned) and two walks.

The Trojans raced to a 4-0 lead after two innings and sailed to a 9-0 win over the Cadets on June 2 in Cresco.
“When you pitch well and score runs, the game is so much easier,” Stepan said. “We scored early and didn’t look back.”
Turkey Valley racked up 20 total hits at the plate. Cale Reicks tallied four hits, including one double, had three runs and two RBI. Evan Drilling had three hits, including one double, two runs and two RBI. Kannon Leuenberger tallied three hits, including one double, and two RBI.
Mason Goerend had three hits and two runs. Elliott Dietzenbach had one hit and one run. Luke Anderson had three hits, including two doubles, one run and one RBI. Simon Schmitt had one hit.
Cale Reicks was the winning pitcher. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowed only one hit, one walk and struck out three.

Facing a strong South Winn team on June 2, the Trojans struggled as they fell behind 0-5 after two innings as South Winn earned a 12-0 win in five innings.
“You have to score runs to win, and we didn’t do that,” Stepan said. “South Winn is a really good team, and we knew we would have our hands full.”
The Trojans finished with four hits. Evan Drilling had two hits, including one double. Dietzenbach and Luke Mueller each had one single.
Kannon Leuenberger was the losing pitcher. He tossed one and two-thirds innings, allowed two hits, three earned runs and three walks. Keegan Balk pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowed three hits, six earned runs, two walks and struck out one.
