Ryan Steffen advances to 2A State Tournament Championship match on Feb. 17
DES MOINES - Crestwood senior Ryan Steffen, ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, won his first three matches at the State Wrestling Tournament to advance to the 145-pound championship match against No. 4 Austin Rozeboom of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
At 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 17, the coaches and officials awards will be presented at the State Tournament, and the Grand March will begin at 6 p.m. The championship matches in all three classes will follow the Grand March.
NBC Sports Chicago will broadcast the championship matches on TV, and the championship matches will also be shown live online at NBCSportsChicago.com/IOWA and IHSSN.com at 6 p.m. on Feb. 17.
In the first round at State, Steffen won a 6-1 decision over Eric Campie of Camahche. In the quarterfinals, Steffen rallied to win a 6-5 decision over No. 1 Noah Fye of New Hampton-Turkey Valley. In the semifinals, Steffen recorded a 6-4 decision over No. 2 Tanner Abbas of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows to advance to the finals for the first time in his career. Steffen is a four-time semifinalist at the State Tournament.
At 120 pounds, Cadet junior No. 2 Kaden Anderlik won a 6-1 decision in the first round over No. 10 Carson Babcock of NH-TV. In the quarterfinals, Anderlik lost a 4-3 decision to No. 3 Drake Doolittle of Webster City. In the first round consolation match, Anderlik won a 9-3 decision over Walker Ikerd of Washington. In the second round consolation match, Anderlik lost a 3-2 decision to No. 7 Zeb Gnida. Anderlik will wrestle in the seventh place match at noon on Feb. 17.
At 160 pounds, Crestwood junior No. 7 Colter Bye won a 4-2 decision over Luke Martin of Bishop Heelan in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Bye lost to No. 1 Josh Ramirez of Dubuque Wahlert by fall. In the first round consolation match, Bye won an 8-3 decision over Kole Kreinbring of Davenport Assumption. In the second round consolation, Bye lost by fall to No. 2 Wes Dummings of PCM. Bye will wrestle in the seventh place match at noon on Feb. 17.
At 285, Cadet senior No. 9 Jacob Knutson lost a 1-0 decision to No. 7 Blake Bradley of Dubuque Wahlert in the first round. In the first round consolation match, Knutson won by fall over Ross Wiertsma of Central Lyon. In the second round consolation match, Knutson lost a 3-2 double overtime decision to Blake Sevier of Creston-OM.
