Osage defeats Crestwood volleyball team, 3-0

OSAGE - The Osage volleyball team justified its No. 6 ranking in Class 3A on Wednesday, Oct. 18 as the Green Devils defeated the Crestwood Cadets in three games in the first round of the Class 3A Regional Tournament (25-20, 25-14, 25-8). The loss ended Crestwood’s season with an overall record of 14-20.
Osage will advance to play Clear Lake in the region semifinals Oct. 24.
Game one was a close contest early on. Both teams traded points until Osage grabbed a 6-3 lead. Two serves by Taylar Pecinovsky cut the Green Devils’ lead to 6-5, but Osage responded with a 6-1 run to go ahead 12-6. Crestwood clawed back to slice Osage’s lead to two points at 16-14 before the Green Devils went on a 7-2 run to pull ahead 23-16. One kill by Shannon Pisney, one serve by Maddie Steffen and a sideout cut the Green Devils’ lead to 24-20 before Osage won the game.
In game two, Osage took a quick 5-1 lead, but two kills by Shannon Pisney sliced the lead to 7-4. However, Osage answered with a 9-0 run to pull ahead 16-4. Crestwood was unable to close the gap to under nine points the rest of the game as Osage won 25-14.
In game three, Crestwood took an early 2-1 lead. However, Osage came back with a 7-2 run to go ahead 8-4. The Cadets were unable to gain any momentum after that as Osage ended the game with a 10-1 run to clinch the win, 25-8.
Shannon Pisney tallied 10 kills, had two digs, completed six of six serves and had one ace. Maddie Steffen was 11 of 12 serving, had two aces and seven digs. Emma Mannery had 10 assists, five digs and completed eight of nine serves.
Kayla Lentz posted 13 digs. Taylar Pecinovsky had seven assists and completed seven of eight serves. Sharon Goodman had six kills. Kaylee Thomas had four digs. Amiah DeWolf had two digs.
