No. 14 Crestwood grapplers pin NB-C, NFV

WEST UNION - The Class 2A No. 14 Crestwood wrestling team went into the Christmas break on a strong note as the Cadets notched two impressive dual wins over North Butler-Clarksville (54-22) and North Fayette Valley (70-8) on Dec. 19 at North Fayette.

Four Cadets are ranked in the top 10 including: No. 3 Kaden Anderlik (120), No. 3 Ryan Steffen (145), No. 9 Colter Bye (160) and No. 9 Jacob Knutson (285).

“We’ve been really pushing the kids (during the first few weeks of the season),” said Cadet Coach Keith Slifka. “The kids and I are looking forward to the Christmas break so they can recover, and let their minds and bodies rest.

“All-in-all, we’ve had a good start to the season with a 10-4 dual record. One of the things I’m most proud of is that we’ve fielded a full lineup in every dual so far,” Slifka said.

The coach was happy to see the Cadets take care of business against NB-C and NFV on Dec. 19.

“I was real proud of how we wrestled against both teams,” Slifka said. “North Fayette had a few open classes. Against North Butler, we showed that we are the better team. I’m very proud of the way our kids have competed so far, especially against our schedule. 

“I’m excited to see how our kids will respond after the break. We will have a big test after Christmas with a dual against Waverly and New Hampton (on Jan. 4 at New Hampton). Our schedule after Christmas will include a lot of Thursday and Saturday meets so we can work on some skills and prepare for the end of the year,” Slifka said.

In the exhibition matches against NB-C, Cade Wenthold won a decision and Cale Jackson won by fall. Against NFV, Kole Menne won a decision. Brendon Dixon also competed.
