Crestwood softball team sweeps Oelwein, W-SR, Waukon

 

CRESCO - Excellent pitching, hitting and defense by the Crestwood softball team helped the Cadets sweep Oelwein on June 25 at home, 5-0 and 9-2.
Facing off against Waverly-SR during a home doubleheader on June 26, the Cadets notched two well-earned wins, 4-3, in eight innings in game one; and 4-2 in game two.
Closing out the regular season at home against Waukon on June 28 at home, the Cadets rallied to beat the Indians, 2-1, in game one; and they crushed Waukon, 10-0, in six innings in game two. 
Crestwood finished the regular season at 22-9 overall (14-4 NEIC, second place). The Cadets played Union at home at 7 p.m. on July 3 in the first round of the Class 3A Region 5 Tournament. The winner will play either New Hampton or Osage in the region semifinal on July 6 at 7 p.m. at Crestwood. The region final will be on July 9 at 7 p.m. Results from the region games will be in next week’s Times Plain Dealer.
 
Cadets 5, Oelwein 0 (G1)
In game one, Crestwood took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and cruised past the Huskies for a 5-0 win.
In the bottom of the first, Shannon Pisney doubled to drive in one run, Taylar Pecinovsky drove in one run with a ground out and Laken Lienhard scored on a wild pitch.
The Cadets added single runs in the third and fourth innings.
Shannon Pisney finished with one double, one run and two runs batted in. Ashley Voves had two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI. Taylar Pecinovsky had two RBI. Shelby Pisney scored one run. Trista Foster had one double. 
Laken Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed two hits, one walk and struck out 14.

Cadets 9, Oelwein 2 (G2)
In game two, the Cadets broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth on their way to a 9-2 victory.
Crestwood tallied three runs in the second. Laken Lienhard ripped a double to drive in two runs.
In the fifth, the Cadets took advantage of two Oelwein errors to break the game open. Ashley Voves scored when Shannon Pisney reached third on an error. Taylar Pecinovsky drove in Pisney with a ground out. Kimberly Hauber reached base on an error, which allowed two runs to score.
Lienhard tallied one double and two RBI. Pecinovsky had one single and two RBI. Annie Mast posted one double, one single, one run and one RBI. Madison Steffen tallied one double, two runs and one RBI. Hallie Frohn had one double. Shannon Pisney had one triple, one double, two runs and one RBI.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went six innings, allowed one hit, no runs, no walks and struck out 10. Kaylee Thomas pitched one inning, allowed no hits and two unearned runs.

Cadets 4, W-SR 3 (G1)
In the first game, Crestwood rallied to tie the game at three-all in the seventh, and the Cadets won the game in the eighth on a game-winning ground out by Taylar Pecinovsky to earn the 4-3 win.
Crestwood took a 2-1 lead in the third before Waverly-SR’s Emma Robson hit a two-run home run in the sixth to give the Go-Hawks a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Keelee Andera drew a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hallie Frohn. Laken Lienhard crushed a single to drive in Andera to tie the game at three-all.
In the bottom of the eighth, Shannon Pisney ripped a double, and she went to second on a wild pitch. Taylar Pecinovsky was retired on a grounder, but Pisney raced home for the game-winning run.
Laken Lienhard posted one hit and one RBI. Shannon Pisney had three hits, including two doubles, and scored two runs. Trista Foster had two hits, one run and one RBI. Taylar Pecinovsky had one hit and one RBI. Madison Steffen had one hit. Keelee Andera scored one run.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went eight innings, allowed six hits and three runs (two earned).

Cadets 4, W-SR 2 (G2)
In the second game, the Go-Hawks grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third, but the Cadets rallied to score single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to win, 4-2.
Crestwood tied the game at two-all in the fourth. Shannon Pisney walked, stole second and scored when Madison Steffen reached base on an error.
The Cadets scored one in the fifth to go ahead, 3-2. Laken Lienhard singled and scored on a double by Ashley Voves. 
Crestwood added one run in the sixth. Taylar Pecinovsky ripped a double, and Kailyn Erickson came in as a courtesy runner. After Steffen reached on an error, Erickson scored on a wild pitch.
Lienhard tallied two hits, including one double, and scored two runs. Ashley Voves had one hit and one RBI. Shannon Pisney had one RBI.
Taylar Pecinovsky had one double. Madison Steffen had one hit and one RBI. Kryslynn Ruppert and Kailyn Erickson each scored one run.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed five hits, three runs (one earned run), one walk and struck out three.

Cadets 2, Waukon 1 (G1)
Waukon held a 1-0 lead in game one before Crestwood rallied for two runs in the sixth inning to nip the Indians, 2-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hallie Frohn singled, and Annie Mast came in as a courtesy runner. After Laken Lienhard reached base on an error, Shannon Pisney singled to drive in Mast. Lienhard scored the game-winning run on a ground out by Taylar Pecinovsky.
Shannon Pisney tallied one single and one RBI. Ashley Voves, Trista Foster and Hallie Frohn each had one single. Mast and Lienhard each scored one run. Pecinovsky had one RBI.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, walked one and struck out seven.

Cadets 10, Waukon 0 (G2)
In the second game, Crestwood blew open the game with six runs in the sixth inning to crush the Indians, 10-0.
Crestwood scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Shannon Pisney and an RBI single by Annie Mast.
Taylar Pecinovsky ripped a solo home run in the fourth. In the fifth, Pisney hit a sacrifice fly to score Laken Lienhard.
In the sixth, Madison Steffen scored when Kaylee Thomas reached on an error. Lienhard ripped a triple to drive in two runs, and Ashley Voves had an RBI single. Pisney ended the game with a two-run home run. 
Pisney finished with one home run, one double, one run and four RBI. Annie Mast and Ashley Voves each had one single and one RBI. Madison Steffen posted two singles and one run. 
Lienhard had one triple, two runs and two RBI. Lienhard also had a home run that was taken off the scoreboard because the game official determined she did not touch second base after Waukon appealed the play. Kayla Lentz and Kailyn Erickson each scored one run. Kaylee Thomas had one single.
Thomas was the winning pitcher. She went six innings, allowed two hits, no walks and struck out three.
