Cadets conquer Vikings, 35-7

CRESCO - Against the backdrop of a hot and humid late summer evening, the Crestwood varsity football team pillaged and plundered the Decorah Vikings for four quarters on its way to an impressive 35-7 win at home on Friday, Sept. 4.
The Cadets dominated the Vikings on both sides of the ball the entire game. Crestwood racked up an eye-popping 259 yards rushing on 39 carries (good for 6.6 yards per carry) in addition to 94 yards passing by senior quarterback Alex Loden.
Meanwhile, the Vikings were held to only 82 total yards rushing on 25 carries (3.3 yards per carry) and 100 yards passing.
Friday’s contest could not have started any better for the Cadets as they raced to a 21-0 first period lead, pushed their advantage to 28-7 at halftime and cruised to the convincing win.
Crestwood Head Coach Justin Denner was ecstatic to see the Cadets start the game strong.
“We got the ball first and scored on our first drive, which was huge for us,” Denner said. “We executed well right off the bat. In our second drive, we converted a fourth-and-short into a touchdown. Then we had a pick six (interception for a touchdown).
“This was a great performance by our whole team, including the offense, defense and special teams. We’ll still watch the film and try to fix a few things, because there were a few things that were not so good.
“Overall, we felt really good about what we had going on (during the game). Our guys answered the bell physically, which was big for us,” Denner said.
