Cadet spikers down Waukon, Saint Ansgar

CRESCO - Solid team play helped the Crestwood varsity volleyball team post an impressive 3-0 win over Waukon on Oct. 3. The Cadets won by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-7.
“We played with lots of emotion,” Crestwood Coach Robin Gossman said. “We served well as a team and our defense was excellent both at the net and in the back row. The girls played with a lot of confidence through the entire match.”
Shannon Pisney paced the Cadets with 18 kills, had nine digs, two blocks and completed 16 of 17 serves. Maddie Steffen posted 18 digs, completed 11 of 11 serves and had four aces. Kaylee Thomas had 10 digs.
Taylar Pecinovsky had 16 assists and completed 11 of 12 serves. Emma Mannery had 18 assists, eight digs and completed 15 of 15 serves. Kayla Lentz had 17 digs, completed 15 of 15 serves and had five aces.
Audrey Grinhaug had five digs and two kills. Sharon Goodman had nine kills and seven blocks. Samantha Balk had three blocks. Memphis Sweeney had two kills.
As a team, the Cadets had 34 kills, 34 assists, 72 digs, 12 blocks, completed 73 of 76 serves and had nine aces.
St. Ansgar match
Playing against Saint Ansgar at home Monday during Senior Night, the Cadets notched a thrilling 3-1 win over the Saints (25-22, 25-10, 12-25, 25-21) to improve their overall record to 11-15.
Monday’s match was the final home contest for nine Crestwood seniors including: Danielle Ahern, Jacey Bina, Audrey Grinhaug, Kayla Lentz, Emma Mannery, Taylar Pecinovsky, Shannon Pisney, Maddie Steffen and Kaylee Thomas.
Crestwood looked impressive on the court early on as it won the first two games before Saint Ansgar bounced back to win game three. In the fourth game, the Saints took a 9-4 lead, but the Cadets stormed back to grab their first lead at 15-14. The Saints cut Crestwood’s lead to two points at 23-21 before the Cadets notched the final two points to win.
Shannon Pisney paced Crestwood with 21 kills, had five digs, two blocks and completed 10 of 10 serves with one ace. Emma Mannery posted 18 assists and completed 11 of 13 serves. Kayla Lentz tallied 24 digs and completed 18 of 22 serves with one ace.
Taylar Pecinovsky had 12 assists and completed 10 of 11 serves with one ace. Sharon Goodman had six kills and five blocks. Maddie Steffen had six digs and completed 21 of 22 serves with one ace. Audrey Grinhaug was 14 of 15 serving with one ace and had four digs. Jacey Bina had three digs, and Danielle Ahern had two blocks.
