Cadet girls trounce Waukon, Decorah; lose to Charles City; win two games at West Delaware Tourney

 

CRESCO - The Class 3A No. 10 Crestwood softball team had no trouble against Waukon on June 11 as the Cadets crushed the Indians, 11-0.
Facing a very strong Charles City squad at home on June 13, the Cadets held an early 2-1 lead before the Comets rallied to win, 6-2.
Crestwood bounced back from the loss to the Comets by thumping the Decorah Vikings, 8-0, on June 14.
Competing at the West Delaware Tournament on June 15 and June 16, the Cadets won two of four games to place fourth. Crestwood beat North Linn (1-0) and Cascade (5-0) on June 15. On June 16, the Cadets lost to Dyersville Beckman (0-6) and fell to Williamsburg (1-5). 
The Cadets (13-9) will host a doubleheader against Oelwein on June 20 at 5:30 p.m., and they will host Turkey Valley on June 21 at 7 p.m.
 
Cadets 11, Waukon 0
A strong pitching performance by Laken Lienhard combined with solid team hitting lifted the Cadet softball team to a convincing 11-0 win over Waukon on June 11.
Crestwood tallied four runs in the second, added single runs in the third and fourth, added three in the fifth and two in the seventh inning.
Laken Lienhard rapped one double, one triple, had two runs and four runs batted in. Taylar Pecinovsky had two hits, one run and one RBI. Shannon Pisney tallied one hit and two runs.
Ashley Voves had one double and one RBI. Madison Steffen posted one hit and one run. Kayla Lentz had two runs and one RBI. Kaylee Thomas had three hits, including one double, two runs and one RBI.
Kristen Reicks had one hit and two RBI. Annie Mast tallied one hit, one run and one RBI. Kryslynn Ruppert had one hit.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed four hits, no walks and struck out 11.

C. City 6, Cadets 2
NEIC leader Charles City rallied for five runs in the fourth inning and held on to down the Cadet girls, 6-2, on June 13.
“We had one bad inning against Charles City,” Cadet Coach Doug Sickles said. “We allowed a good opponent extra opportunities, and they took advantage of it. For the most part, we competed well against Charles City.”
The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before the Cadets tallied two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Laken Lienhard reached first on a dropped third strike, and she scored when Ashley Voves reached third on an error. Voves scored when Shannon Pisney reached second on an error.
Charles City racked up five runs in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.
Shannon Pisney ripped a triple and had one RBI for the Cadets. Laken Lienhard and Ashley Voves each scored one run.
Laken Lienhard was the losing pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed six hits, six runs (four earned), walked one and struck out nine.

Cadets 8, Decorah 0
Playing at Decorah on June 14, the Cadets scored two runs each in the third and fifth before adding four runs in the seventh during an 8-0 win. 
“We continued to apply pressure to Decorah throughout the game,” Sickles said. “Our bats came alive, and Laken Lienhard dominated with her pitching.”
Lienhard notched the win. She went seven innings, allowed five hits, two walks and struck out 10.
At the plate, Lienhard had one home run and two RBI. Shannon Pisney and Annie Mast each had one hit and one RBI. Voves had one hit. Taylar Pecinovsky had one RBI.

Crestwood split four games at the West Delaware Tournament on June 15 and 16. The Cadets shut out North Linn (1-0) and Cascade (5-0) on June 15. On June 16, Crestwood lost to Dyersville Beckman (0-5) and fell to Williamsburg (1-5).
 
Cadets 1, N.L. 0
In game one, Crestwood scored the only run in the sixth and held on to win 1-0.
In the sixth, Annie Mast bunted for a single, and she scored on a triple by Laken Lienhard.
“This was a nip and tuck game throughout,” Sickles said. “Both Laken and the North Linn pitcher pitched well.”
Lienhard earned the win. She went seven innings, allowed four hits, one walk and struck out seven.
 
Cadets 5, Cascade 0
Crestwood posted a solid 5-0 win over Cascade in game two.
Lienhard earned the win. She went seven innings, allowed three hits, one walk and struck out 12.
At the plate, Lienhard had one triple, one single and one RBI. Voves and Kayla Lentz each had one hit. Shannon Pisney had two hits, including one home run, and one RBI. Keelee Andera had one triple.
 
D. Beckman 6, Cadets 0
Crestwood tallied only two hits during a 6-0 loss to Dyersville Beckman.
“During the Beckman and Williamsburg games, we did not swing the bats well,” Sickles said. “We couldn’t string hits together.”
Madison Steffen and Taylar Pecinovsky each had one single against Beckman.
Lienhard pitched five innings and took the loss against Beckman. Hallie Frohn pitched one inning.
 
Williamsburg 5, CW 1
Crestwood tallied eight hits against Williamsburg, but it had trouble scoring as it lost 1-5.
Trista Foster had two hits and one RBI. Shannon Pisney tallied two hits. Voves, Kayla Lentz and Kaylee Thomas each had one hit.
Lienhard was the losing pitcher. She went six innings, allowed three earned runs, two walks and struck out seven.
