Vince Thraenert, 88

CRESCO - Vince Thraenert, age 88, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco. 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. 

Vincent A. Thraenert was born on Sept. 17, 1931 in Howard County, Iowa to William and Margaret (Bilek) Thraenert. He graduated from Cresco High School in 1948 and married Sadie Hovey on Sept. 20, 1955 at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. 

Vince was an electrician for over 30 years. He started his career working for Zak Electric. He later worked for Donaldson Company, retiring  in 1998.

Playing guitar was a hobby he enjoyed his entire life, and he played in several local bands. He also spent a lot of time researching genealogy. During his research, he and Sadie were able to meet many relatives they were previously unaware of. Vince also enjoyed gardening and helping Sadie in the kitchen.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie of Cresco; three children, Julie (Brian) Humphries of Dallas, Texas, Tom (friend Janet) Thraenert of Jefferson, Wis. and Tim (Dedra) Thraenert of Owatonna, Minn.; five grandchildren, Brody Humphries, William Thraenert, Christopher Thraenert, Nicholas Thraenert and Benjamin Thraenert; nieces and nephews; and Sadie’s siblings, Janice Peter, Charlotte (Ken) Hebrink, Harold Hovey and Harry (Michelle) Hovey.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark; an infant brother, Billy Bob Thraenert; two sisters, Rita (Harland) Guthart and Kathleen Thraenert; and Sadie’s siblings, Helen (Ed) Dotzler, Darleen (Orvin) Bakken, Don (Marlys) Hovey, Jerry Peter and Vera Hovey.
