Decorah -  Stanley Humpal, age 88, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, July 31, 2017, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Buial will be Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, Iowa, with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Stanley Stephen Humpal was born on April 26, 1929, the son of James and Christine (Phillips) Humpal on the family farm near Conover in rural Winneshiek County, Iowa. He attended country school in Conover through eighth grade. He began farming after school with his family. 
He met Kathleen “Kay” Heying at a dance in Spillville, and they were married on Sept. 5, 1950 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina, Iowa. Together they had eight children, twins Kathy and Karen, Dale, Lonnie, Dean, Sally, Tina and Darryl. 
Stanley continued to farm until the couple moved to Decorah in 1994. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He had a passion for farming his entire life, and after he retired, he still enjoyed driving around and checking the crops and livestock. 
Stanley is survived by his wife, Kay; seven children, Karen (Russell) Stevenson Jr. of Lime Springs, Iowa, Dale (Mary Jo) Humpal of Ridgeway, Iowa, Lonnie (Karen) Humpal of Decorah, Dean (Lois) Humpal of Decorah, Sally (Clair) Malanaphy of Decorah, Tina (Donald) Shatek of Elma, Iowa and Darryl (Michelle) Humpal of Ridgeway; and grandchildren,  Dr. Kari (Don) Taylor-Evans, Karla (Mike) Clay, Tressa (Kevin) Walton, Jackie (Three) Carpenter, Rodney Stevenson, Tara (Tristan) Roegner, Jenna Humpal, Dylan Humpal, Melissa (Ben) Fisher, Ashley (Kevin) Wellmann, Brett (Becky) Humpal, Chelsea (Fiance, Colin McGuire) Humpal, Chanda Humpal, Nicole (Steve) Sprague, DeAnn (Chris) Constantine, Joshua (Alyssa) Humpal, Jordan Humpal, Jake Humpal, Kelly (Jeff) Evans, Lucas (Sarah) Malanaphy, Colin Malanaphy, Kristen Malanaphy, Jessica (Pat) McCabe, Sarah (Matt) Dick, Brittney (Wyatt) Phillips, Brooke (Jordan Ferries) Shatek, Danielle (Fiance, Mitchell Hageman) Humpal, Courtney Humpal, Hannah Humpal and Avery Humpal. 
In addition, he is survived by great grandchildren, Mason Taylor-Evans, Ian and Maya Clay, Samantha and Sydney Walton, Jaycee Kay Carpenter, McKenna Mueller, Cole and Andon Fisher, Austin Wellman, Brayton Humpal, Lily and Emma Humpal, Cameron and Evan Sprague, Hartley Constantine, Owen and Stella Humpal, Grace, Elias and Azelie Malanaphy, Preston and Taylor McCabe, Logan, Lawson and Linley Dick and Kalison and Skylar Phillips; four sisters-in-law, Elsie Timp and Joyce (Richard) Shindelar of Calmar, Iowa, Marcie (Larry) Havel of Osage, Iowa and Elaine Heying of Calmar; and five brothers-in-law, Irvin (Marion) Heying of Sumner, Iowa, Cleo (Emily) Heying of Luana, Iowa, Richard (Linda) Heying of Ossian, Iowa, Donald (Carolyn) Heying of Calmar and Eugene Bodensteiner of West Union, Iowa.
Stanley was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy (Alan) Taylor; parents, James and Christine (Phillips) Humpal, father and mother-in-law, Peter and Agnes (Bohr) Heying, five brothers and their spouses, William (Emma) Humpal, Adolph (Ludmilla) Humpal, Paul (Rose) Humpal, Rudy (Rita) Humpal and Robert Humpal; three brothers-in-law, Hugo (Lucille) Heying, Donald Timp and Larry Heying; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Langreck and Rosalyn Bodensteiner.
