CRESCO - Rita Gamez, age 96, of Cresco, Iowa, left this earth to be taken into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021 in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. before the service. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.
Rita Gamez was born to Jose and Rosa Zavala in Hondo, Texas on Sept. 16, 1925.
She leaves a legacy of inspirational faith, dedicated to prayer and reading her Bible. Her faith and belief in her Lord and Savior is a testimony to her nine children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She exemplified the meaning of walking with Jesus every day to the best of her ability. You always knew you could depend on her to pray for you. She was the prayer warrior for the family and others. Her life was driven by her desire to praise and honor her Savior.
Rita was a talented seamstress, immaculate housekeeper, cook and homemaker. She and her husband, Daniel, were known in the community as the owners of the Auto Farm business. Together they left a legacy of hard work, integrity and generosity to their family and others.
Rita had a special way of making her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel special. The mother, grandmother and great-grandmother will be missed by her family and others who were fortunate to have known her and to have been loved by her.
She leaves one of her favorite verses for those who knew her — Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Rita is survived by her children, Charles (Mary) Gamez, Rosa Lopez, Josephine (Richard) Cummings, Adolph (Jolene) Gamez, David (Lila) Gamez, Diane Gamez Grandia and Denise Gamez/Daniel Horn; daughters-in-law, Johanna Gamez and Glenda Gamez; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She joins her husband of 65 years, Daniel Gamez, and sons, Ruben and Daniel Jr.
