RICHMOND, VA - Paul H. Kvam, 62, of Richmond, VA, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, after a short battle with cancer in the company of family.  A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Richmond Friends Meeting, 4500 Kensington Avenue, Richmond, VA 23221.  
Paul Haakon Kvam was born in Dayton, OH on August 1, 1962, the son of Glen and Lucille (Kolind) Kvam.  He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1980 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in in Mathematics from Iowa State University, a Master of Science in Statistics from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California, Davis.  He authored and co-authored a number of professional books and papers while at Los Alamos, Georgia tech, and University of Richmond.  
Paul was a devoted husband, uncle and friend.  Paul traveled extensively and often tied trips into visiting family and friends.  Music, biking, and baseball were three of his primary passions.  He enjoyed playing his tenor saxophone and was a member of the University of Richmond Wind Ensemble.  He collected music from a wide variety of artists.  In 2004 he completed a bike ride across the US from the Pacific to Atlantic shores, as well as several rides across his home state of Iowa with RAGBRAI rides.  He also was in the same fantasy baseball league for 35 years.
Paul is survived by Lori (Houghton) Kvam of Richmond, VA; his brothers, Eric (Margaret Morris) of West Lafayette, IN, Ken (Connie) of Sun City West, AZ; and several beloved nieces and nephews, Erika Kvam (Jon Maj), Peter Kvam (Anna Sullivan Kvam), Bailey Houghton, Claire Houghton, Will Houghton, Ellie Houghton, and one grandniece, Paige Kvam.
Paul will be remembered for his gentle spirit, keen sense of humor and quick wit, his heart for social justice, love of animals and devotion to the dogs (Seaver and Tug) throughout his life, his cat (Kirby), and his love of his wife, family, and friends.
