ELMA - Norbert P. Burke, age 90, of Elma, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Colonial Manor in Elma.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating.  If you’re not able to attend the funeral mass in person, please join them via Conway-Markham Facebook Livestream.  Military honors will be provided by the Elma American Legion and Alta Vista VFW.  There will be a visitation from 9-11 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral mass on Tuesday.  Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Elma. Norbert Paul was born on Sept. 16, 1931 to William and Alice (Bilek) Burke in Elma.  He attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma.  
After completing his education, Norbert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge.  Returning home, Norbert began his lifelong farming career.  At a chance meeting while dancing at the Pla-Mor in Rochester, Minn., Norbert met the love of his life.  He was united in marriage to Theresa Hofschulte on Aug. 27, 1977 at St. Clements Parish in Hammond, Minn.  The couple made their home on the family farm by Maple Leaf, Iowa, until their retirement in 1997 when they moved into town.  
Away from farming, Norbert enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading.  He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Alta Vista VFW and Elma American Legion.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, Theresa Burke of Elma; two sisters, Muriely McAllister of Texas and Shirley Mihm of Dubuque, Iowa; his brother, Jim (Judy) Burke of Waterloo, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Sr. Mary Joseph of Techny, Ill., Anna Marie Hofschulte of Rochester, Kay Burke-Milota of Mason City, Minn. and Fran Burke of Cresco, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill, John, Allan, Don, Glendon and Joseph Kenneth in infancy; and his sisters, Phyllis Freidhof-Dietrich and Aleatha Fortune.
