Mary was born on July 6, 1931 in Cresco, Iowa to James and Mary Svoboda. She was married to Robert Bader on Sept. 7, 1948 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They were blessed with 11 children.
Mary enjoyed going to casinos, bingo and socializing. She enjoyed showing her kids and grandkids how to make kolaches. In her lifetime, she worked at several places including the Red Vest, Cliff House, Kalishek’s Tavern, The “original” Place and Eastern Star Nursing Home.
One of Mary’s favorite things to do was playing cards. If you ever stopped at the Bader house, you probably ended up playing a game, or two, of cards. So, there is probably a big card game going on right now with Bob, Mary, Jerry and Mike.
Mary is survived by 10 children, Jean Triplett of Littleton, Colo., Allan of Arlington, Va., Bonnie of Protivin, Lois Smith of Commerce City, Colo., Peggy (Larry) Kuennen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Arlis of Littleton, Shirley (Reggie) Horak of Waterloo, Iowa, Larry (Ros) of Platteville, Colo., Patty (Roy) Hageman of Decorah and Lisa (Don) Brown of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, JoAnna (Derek) Korteand Renee Saylor; Brad (Amelia), Brent (Elle), Kyle (Sara) and Eric (Alicia) Kuennen; Wayne (Paige), Ryan and Jeff Horak and Kim (Niko) Felice; Amanda (Mack) DeBord and Connie and Robyn Smith; Jerry and Jill Bader; Dakota and Ben Hageman and Brandi (Ben) Loging; and Lane and Megan Brown. In addition, there are 15 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and a sister, Agnes (Ron) Dostal of Protivin.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 2019; her parents; son, Jerry; sisters, Helen (Arnie) Havel, Irene (Leonard) Cervenka and Gert (David) Boddicker; brothers, Ray (Mary) Svoboda and Jim Svoboda; sons-in-law, Mike Triplett and Greg Smith; and daughter-in-law, Bev Bader.
