CRESCO - Marilyn Marie (Leverson) Balk, age 75, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Aug. 26, 2022 with her family by her side.

“Ma,” as all of her kids called her, wanted a private funeral service.

Ma was born on Nov. 12, 1946 to Harold and Donna (Cheney) Leverson. She was raised on a farm in Lime Springs, Iowa. On May 15, 1965, she married the love of her life, Willard L. Balk, and they had three children.

Ma was a stay-at-home ma and eventually had a part-time job. Her main priority was her children and Willard, and eventually the in-laws, grandkids, great-grandkids and granddogs. The couple enjoyed driving around and going places. They were truly the best for each other. Willard passed on Feb. 28, 2015, but Marilyn still did what she wanted. She loved shopping for plants and anything else she wanted or needed. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and taking care of her house and plants.

Ma enjoyed and loved life the way she wanted. She and Dad are together again.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Brian (Nancy) Balk; daughters, Brenda Mackenburg and Kris (Tom) Balk-Omar; her dachshund, Toby; grandkids, Alicia Mackenburg, Breanne Balk (Jesse House), Bethany Balk, Alex Mackenburg (fiancé Marissa Ells) and Baylee (Trevor) Malven; great-granddaughter, Ella Malven; step-grandkids, Lydia (Jacob) Johnson, Becky (Connor) Sirovy and Mitchell Melaas; step-great-grandson, Kyson Sirovy; and her furry grandcritters. She is also survived by her brother, Bruce (Amy) Leverson and their family; brothers-in-law, Dale (Suzie) Balk and their family and Dean (Melodee) Balk and their family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her mom and dad and in-laws.
