Decorah - Lois Henry, age 76, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, June 5, 2017, at her home in Decorah.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah. No formal service will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Lois Estelle (Gossman) Henry was born on Dec. 27, 1940, the daughter of Leland and Irma (Patterson) Gossman in Cresco, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Canton High School in 1959.
She was married to Duane Henry on July 7, 1959, at St. Agnes-Plymouth Rock Catholic Church, and they later divorced. Lois stayed at home and raised their four children. She worked at Camcar, starting in 1978 and moved to Decorah in 1984. She retired in 2005 and worked in the kitchen at St. Benedict Catholic School, retiring in May 2016. Lois also worked at a few of the bars around the Decorah area, where she met many of her close friends.
She always enjoyed socializing and visiting with her friends, especially her Tuesday card games with the “girls.” She also liked to do crosswords and all kinds of puzzles. Lois liked to travel and had many wonderful adventures, including several cruises and trips to Alaska and Ireland. Above all, she loved and cherished her two grandchildren, Logan and Christopher. She will be remembered for her quick wit and her fun-loving and honest personality.
Lois is survived by her four children, Daniel (Becky) Henry of LaCrosse, Wis., Angela (special friend, Rob Anderson) Henry of Ridgeway, Iowa, David (Barb) Henry of Highlandville, Iowa and Julie (Dave) Brenno of Cresco; two grandchildren, Logan and Christopher Brenno; two sisters, Laurice Fulsaas of Decorah and Norma Oyloe of Owatonna, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Wanda Gossman of Hudson, Wis.; along with several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Irma (Patterson) Gossman; one brother, Donald Gossman; and two brothers-in-law, Merle Fulsaas and Melvin Oyloe.
