LIME SPRINGS - Judy Ann (Souhrada) Miller, age 79, of Lime Springs, Iowa, passed away on May 15, 2022 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa. She had been living there since December 2021.
A celebration of life will be held on May 21, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. at the Lime Springs Community Center. A private family burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs at a later date.
Judy was born in Iowa on June 10, 1942. She was later adopted at around six-months-old by Frank and Louise Souhrada. She grew up on a farm just outside of Lime Springs with her parents and brother, Jerry.
She attended country school and later attended Notre Dame, where she would graduate. Judy met her future husband, James “Jim” Miller, and they were married on June 14, 1963. The couple lived in Lime Springs and had three children, Judy “Punky,” James “Jimmy” and Richard “Richie.”
Judy had many jobs throughout her life, including babysitting, cooking, waitressing, bartending and working with Jim at the gas station they owned.
She enjoyed reading, playing cards, baking, cooking and spending time with her family. Judy was well-known in the area as “Ma Miller.” She played pool league for many years and enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Engelhart; son, Jimmy Miller; daughter-in-law, Connie Miller; brother, Jerry (Linda) Souhrada; grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Praska, Ashley Kirkpatrick, Frank (Nicole) Engelhart, J.J. Miller, Chelsea Miller, Arielle (Carter) Larson, Jade Miller, Autumn (Dylan) Praska, Colten (Ashley Reicks) Miller, Kelly (Topher Bigalk) Miller; and 15 great grandchildren.
Also included in survived family are her four half-siblings (from her biological mother, whom she met a few years back), Jim (Cecile) Breitbach, Dan (Sonja) Breitbach, Pam (Jim) Melton and Karen (Larry) Preissler. She had kept in contact with them since meeting.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Louise Souhrada; her husband, Jim Miller Sr.; and a son, Richie Miller.
