Elma -  Gertrude E. Freidhof, age 89, of Elma, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Ministry St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, Wis.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, Iowa with Father Mark Murphy celebrating. Burial was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery at Lourdes. Gertrude Emma Freidhof was born on Jan. 22, 1928 to Henry and Elizabeth (Holthaus) Heying on the family farm near Alta Vista, Iowa. She attended and graduated from St. William’s Catholic School in Alta Vista in 1946. She helped on the farm and did babysitting for neighbors. 

Gertrude was united in marriage to Eugene Freidhof on June 7, 1949 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Alta Vista. They continued to farm near Elma, where they raised their four children and lived their entire lives. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, gardening, crocheting and her family. She was very involved with mission work. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Gertude is survived by her children, Richard (Joanne) Freidhof of Cresco, Iowa, Michael (Dona) Freidhof of New Hampton, Iowa, Betty Wagner of Spillville, Iowa and David (Cindi) Freidhof of Owen, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Arlene Heying of New Hampton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Heying; her husband, Eugene in 2003; sisters, Agnes, Eleanor “Sis,” Alice, and Genieva; and brothers, Norbert, Louis, Linus, Andrew “Dick” and Francis “Mike.”
