Ostrander, Minn. - Frances Gilbert, age 103, of Ostrander, Minn. passed away Feb. 25, 2018 at Ostrander Care and Rehab Center.
Memorial Service for Frances will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ostrander with Rev Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will take place in the Carimona (Minn.) Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the church.
Frances Elizabeth Hendershott was born Nov. 5, 1914 in Carimona, to Frank L. and Minnie Estelle (King) Hendershott. She married Leonard Severson in 1934. He died in 1971, and she married Arthur Gilbert in 1973. He died in 1999.
Frances attended Carimona District #68 school for eight years, Preston High School for four years and one year of normal training in Preston, Minn.
During her working years, she was employed by the Welfare Office of Fillmore County in Preston. After moving to Depew, N.Y., she worked for the Westinghouse Corporation and Twin Industries Corporation. After moving back to Preston, she worked for Ebert Hardware.
Frances loved to do handiwork. She knitted, crocheted, made quilts, did counted cross stitch and sewed, before her hands wouldn’t allow her to do so any more. She loved her church and very much missed going as she aged. She was an active member of the Trinity Ladies Circle quilting group, Do Day Quilters. She loved to play cards, dance and get in the car and just ride, often ending up in someone’s barnyard, and she and her companions would just laugh and laugh.
Frances is survived by her children, Jane Frances (Allan) Krueger of Cresco, Iowa and Julia Ann Fackrell of Cresco; stepsons, Warren (Edie) Gilbert of Columbia, Mo., Maynard Gilbert of Quitman, Texas and Randy (Terri) Gilbert of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Sally Ann (David) Hruska of Cresco, Linda Kay (Danny) Schultz of Red Wing, Minn., Lauren Keith Pickett (Amy Gerls) of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Tammy Ann (Mark) Dumler of Enumclaw, Wash.; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; and a very special friend, Carol Kohn of Ostrander. Frances is also survived by many step-grandchildren and step-great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 
Frances was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Eugene Severson; sons-in-law, Joseph Fackrell and Keith Pickett; stepson, Steven Gilbert; grandchildren, Michael Alan Pickett and Jeffrey Allen Offhaus; sisters, Lois (William) Holton and Gladys (Louis) Grebin; and a brother, Kenneth (Pearl) Hendershott.
