CRESCO - Elizabeth “Betty” A. Zobeck, age 94, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Accura HealthCare of Cresco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, with Fr. Jacob Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Saturday at the church.
Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Slifka was born on May 16, 1928, daughter of Anton J. and Ella E. (Zotika) Slifka in Howard County, Iowa. She was the oldest of four children.
Betty graduated from high school in 1946 and continued her education, becoming a teacher. She taught at a country school in Howard County.
On Oct. 17, 1947, Betty married LaVern Zobeck at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa. Shortly after marriage, they moved to California, where they lived for almost 10 years before moving to St. Paul, Minn.
The couple moved back to the Elma area in 1961, to the farm LaVern’s great-great-grandfather purchased, when he moved from Czechoslovakia. Betty loved being on the farm with LaVern, living the simple life. Throughout her life, she also worked at Deco in Decorah, New Hampton Hospital and Elma Care Center.
Betty volunteered her time teaching Wednesday night religion classes at Our Lady of Lourdes for 15 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes, the rosary society and a pro-life group.
Surviving Betty are her children, Steven (Maria) Zobeck of Columbus, N.M., and his children Anitra, Kristen and Zach, David (Bonita “Bonnie”) Zobeck of Harrisburg, Penn. and their children, Kelly (Brian) Tillman, Katie (Tudor) Zobeck and Kimberly (Eric) McKinney, Diane (Darwin) Kueker of Cresco and Randy (Gail DeVries) Zobeck of Ridgeway, Iowa and his son, Jacob; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosie Gooder of Cresco and Yvonne Roberts of Waterloo, Iowa; and brother, Anthony “Sonny” Slifka of Cresco.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVern on March 27, 2016; brother Jerry (Shirley) Slifka; brothers-in-law, Don Gooder and Ron Roberts; and sister-in-law, Janice Slifka.
