Riceville - Elaine F. Eschweiler, age 82 of Riceville, Iowa passed away at Colonial Manor of Elma, Iowa on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Chris Gorshe officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Sunday, May 21, during the hours of 4-7:30 p.m. and one hour before services at the church.
Elaine Frieda Alice Groth was born on Jan. 28, 1935 in Elma, to Harry John Carl and Alice Wilhelmina (Lubbert) Groth. She attended the local school and graduated from Riceville High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald Roy “Bud” Eschweiler on Aug. 5, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf, Iowa. She farmed with her husband and was secretary to the superintendent of Riceville Schools and secretary for the Riceville School Board for over 30 years. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, quilting, playing cards and gambling trips.
Survivors include her three sons, Gregg (Judy) of Tripoli, Iowa, Doug (Vicky) of Waverly, Iowa and Jerry (Melissa) of Crystal Lake, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Jenny (Billy) Rover, Kim (Josh) Shonka, Matt Eschweiler, Katie (Dustin) Mallie, Kristin Eschweiler (Shaun Ritchie), Christopher Eschweiler, Andrew Eschweiler and Michael Eschweiler. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Ashtyn, Grace, Colie, Jack, Ryin, Nora, Peyton and Taylor; sisters-in-law, Norma Groth of Saratoga, Iowa, Jane Groth of Riceville, Erma Jean Lowe of New Hampton, Iowa and Lou Ann Simon of Stacyville, Iowa.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Bud” in 1998; and two brothers, Eldon and Merle.
