New Hampton - Delores H. Shileny, age 84, of New Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Lawler, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 with her family by her side.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at the church, with a 3 p.m. Rosary and a 3:30 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Friday. Online condolences may be left for Delores’ family at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Delores Helen was born on Sept. 4, 1934 to Joseph and Christina (Kunt) Schmitt in Winneshiek County, Iowa. She attended Mt. Carmel School and graduated from Lawler High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to Norbert Shileny on July 27, 1953 at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa and followed her love along during his military service. After Norbert’s military career, the couple made their home on a farm north of Lawler until they retired in 1997. They moved to New Hampton, where they’ve lived since.
Delores loved being a dealer for Park Lane Jewelry, gardening, baking and cooking (especially poppy seed cake and kolaches), playing cards, casino trips and making quilts and donating them to various organizations. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey, Rosary Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Kountry Kitchen Klub.
Those left to cherish Delores’s memory are her husband, Norbert Shileny of New Hampton; her children, Mary Jo Clarine of New Hampton, Betty (Denis) Kriener of Ankeny, Iowa, Donald (Evette) Shileny of Westminster, Colo. and Joseph C. (Dawn Iverson) of Lawler; her 12 grandchildren, Craig, Joey, John, Alice, Katie, Lisa, Sara, Lisa, Emma, Nicole, Vanessa and Joey; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce (Walt) Mrachek of Cresco; her brothers, George (Darlene) Schmitt of Cresco, Arlo (Mary Helen) Schmitt of Mabel, Minn. and Joseph (Kay) Schmitt of Sarasota, Fla.; her sisters-in-law, Eleanor Dostal of New Hampton, Mary Ann Kuennen of Lawler, Rosie Schmitt of Edgar, Wis., Darlene Schmitt Kaus of Stratford, Wis., Camilla Schmitt of Cresco and Delores Schmitt of Winona, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marilyn; and her brothers, Edmund (Gladys), Raymond, Walter, Lester, Jerry and Robert.
