La Crosse, Wis. - Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend, Cecelia A. Halweg, 94 of La Crosse, Wis. and formerly of Cresco, Iowa died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at the Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak Street, La Crescent, Wis. with David “Bim” Dunt officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco.

Cecelia was born Oct. 23, 1922 in LeRoy, Minn. to John and Adela (Matura) Zotika. She moved with her family to a farm near Lime Springs, Iowa, where she met her future husband Donald “Bud” Halweg, and they later married on Feb. 21, 1944 in Cresco, Iowa. She later moved to the La Crosse area to be closer to her daughter.
Cecelia had worked as a cook for various restaurants in Cresco and retired from her favorite, The Tower Club. Her passions in life were her family, playing cards and baking. She also loved to dance and party.
Cecelia is survived by two children, Carol (David “Bim”) Dunt of Brownsville, Minn. and Don (Holly) Halweg of Eagle, Idaho; grandchildren, Sherri (Mick) Tlusty of Colorado Springs, Colo., Robert Aberg of Madison, Wis., Richard (Kathy) Aberg of Freemont, Ohio, John Dunt of Mankato, Minn., Elizabeth (Kirk) Thorson of Anamosa, Iowa, Andrew Dunt of La Crosse and Nicholas Halweg of Eagle; great-grandchildren, Paige Thorson, Caleb Thorson, Chelsea Aberg and Sydney Aberg; great-great-grand- daughter, Elizabeth Thorson; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Bud” Halweg in 1974; parents; two brothers, John and Otto Zotika; and a sister, Ella Slifka.
