Cresco - Betty Lou Kofron, age 80, of Lime Springs, Iowa, died on Monday, April 2, 2018, at Accura Healthcare in Cresco, Iowa, surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Mark Murphy officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, at Our Lady of Lourdes from 4-7 p.m. and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery.
Betty Lou Luitjens was born on Dec. 22, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Minnie (Meyer) Luitjens. She graduated from Dike High School in 1955. She worked as a secretary at Iowa Securities until her marriage to Clement Kofron on Dec. 22, 1962, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Together, the couple moved to a farm in rural Lime Springs in March 1964. They added a 6,500-capacity chicken house to the farm. Betty was in charge of picking up the eggs, feeding the chickens, feeding pigs and cows and milking the cows, while Clement worked in town. She also worked as a home health aide for 12 years. Betty was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes for many years.
Betty enjoyed baking and cooking everything from scratch, crocheting, embroidery, chatting with everyone (no one was a stranger) and playing cards with card club. She loved nothing more than preparing a delicious meal for her children and grandchildren. She loved to hear everyone saying Grace before a meal.
Betty is survived by her husband, Clement of Lime Springs; children, Karen (Mark) Margotta of Oronoco, Minn., Connie (Jeff) Dutton of Swisher, Iowa, Jean (Shane) Bolling of Denver, Colo. and their son, Jesse, Terry (Debi) Kofron of Des Moines, Iowa and their children, Caylee, Sam and Will and Lisa (John) Henry of Waterloo, Iowa and their children, Riley, Emily, Abby and Logan; and her sisters, Bonnie (Roger) Behrens of Stockton, Mo. and Darlene Itzen of Grundy Center, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Minnie Luitjens; brother-in-law, Ronnie Itzen; sister, Carol (Larry) Bruhn; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Mary Kofron; and many other Luitjens and Kofron relatives.
