PROTIVIN - Arlene Kruchek, age 92, of Protivin, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, with Rev. Daniel Knipper presiding. Burial was in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville, Iowa. 

Arlene Alice (Samec) Kruchek was born on Dec. 21, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Alice (Kellner) Samec in Ridgeway, Iowa. She went to country school and high school in Ridgeway before marrying Jerry Kruchek on April 14, 1948, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Together they had two children, Joseph and Rosemary. 

Arlene was a homemaker and raised her children for many years before working at Ben Franklin in Waterloo later in life. In 1985, the couple moved to Protivin, and shortly after, they established and organized the senior meals program there for many years. She enjoyed taking car rides to the see the countryside and vegetable and flower gardening. She loved visiting and taking care of her family. 

Arlene is survived by her son, Joe (Tina) Kruchek of Dunkerton, Iowa; grandchildren, J.J. Kruchek, Andrea (Brian) Wehling, Leilana Kruchek and David Kruchek; great-grandchildren, Meaghan (Matt) Snyder, Gabrielle Kruchek, Haley Kruchek, Elizabeth, Chris and Dylan Wehling and D’Asia, Sierra and Nari Kruchek; great-great-grandchildren, Reily, Bailee, Kit and Finn; Frank (Marion) Samec and Art (Donna) Samec; sister, Mary McConnell; with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Kruchek; daughter, Rosemary Kruchek; parents, Frank and Alice (Kellner) Samec; siblings, Ed Samec and Helen (Clarence) Sorenson; in-laws, Joseph (Adella) Kruchek, Clarence (Diane) Kruchek and George (Margaret) Kruchek; and brother-in-law, Frank McConnell.
