SPIRIT LAKE - Angie Mayer, age 48 of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2022 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
A funeral service was held on Friday, June 3 at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji, Iowa. Burial was at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Okoboji.
Angela Jean (Gansen) Mayer, was born on Dec. 26, 1973, in Osage, Iowa to Ken and Debra Gansen. After graduating from Crestwood High School, she attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and received her degree in Psychology and Business Administration.
On April 13, 1996, Angie was united in marriage to Matt Mayer at the Wartburg Chapel. They lived in various places including Paullina, Calumet and Spencer before moving to Spirit Lake in 2008. In earlier years, Angie was the co-owner of Emagine Marketing and since has been a “serial entrepreneur.” She was very creative and enjoyed working on many different projects over the years. More importantly, she cherished the relationships she built with her coworkers and the people she met.
Angie’s greatest joy was her family, especially being a mom to her two boys, Noah and Sam. She loved following the boys in whatever they did and was their biggest supporter in life. She loved being a mom and cared and loved Noah and Sam’s friends in a lot of the same ways.
Angie absolutely loved being on or in the water, whether it was a pool, ocean or a lake, it made no difference. She was a member of the Monday Night Golf League at Emerald Hills, loved to dance and had completed a sprint triathlon. She had a beautiful sense of adventure and loved traveling and seeing new things along the way. Angie’s vibrant personality and beautiful smile made it easy to make friends (especially on airplanes). She had a very positive outlook, was selfless, kind and the warmth of her personality could be felt by everyone around her.
Angie is survived by her husband, Matt Mayer; her beautiful boys, Noah Mayer and Sam Mayer; father, Ken (Jamie) Gansen; grandma, Eleanore Gansen; brothers, David (Dani) Gansen and Chad (Maddy) Gansen; aunts, Nancy (Russ) Wolthoff, Connie Fox, Mary Jo (Denny) Fitzgerald and Jayne (Rusty) Joelle; uncles, Bob Gansen and Rich Gansen; in-laws, Lyle and Audrey Mayer; brothers-in-law, Mark (Shandra) Mayer, Mike (Leisa) Mayer and Mitch (Whitney) Mayer; sister-in-law, Jodie (Kurt) Knoner; and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Debra Gansen; grandpa, Joe Gansen; grandpa, Russel Fox; and grandma, Lil Wilcox.
Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.
