ELMA - Alma I. Schroeder, age 93, of Elma, Iowa passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 at her home in rural Elma.
A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Elma.
Alma Ida was born on April 21, 1926 to Clem and Hazel (Van Erdewyk) Koster in Breda, Iowa. She attended and graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Breda. After completing her education, she worked at various jobs.
On May 21, 1946, Alma was united in marriage to Ivan Schroeder at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The couple farmed in Wall Lake, Iowa. In 1949, they moved to Clarion, Iowa, where they farmed together until 1958. Then they made their home on their present farm, where they raised their 10 children.
Alma was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. She enjoyed quilting and baking. She and Ivan enjoyed traveling the world.
She is survived by her children, Thomas (Barbara) Schroeder of Elma, Dean (Nancy) Schroeder of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Loran (Betsy) Schroeder of Albert Lea, Minn., Michael Schroeder of Elma, Sandra Schroeder of Elk City, Okla., Ronald (Joan) Schroeder of West Union, Iowa, Ramona (Gary) Kazynski of Shawano, Wis., David Schroeder and Diane Schroeder, both of Elma, and Debra Loftus of Westside, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Anita Hannasch of Carroll, Iowa, Urban Koster of Breda, Iowa, Myrna Schmidt of Three Fork, Mont. and Alice Theilen of Carroll; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, Ivan Schroeder; five sisters; and five brothers.
