CRESCO - Albert (Al) Schluter, age 94 of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco.
Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Albert was born on June 28, 1927 to August and Martha (Wegener) Schluter of Eldora, Iowa. He grew up in the Hubbard, Iowa area and attended Owasa High School, leaving for WWII in 1945. He was honorably discharged in July 1946. After returning home, he received his GED in Nashua, Iowa.
On July 17, 1949, he married the love of his life, Ruby (Stansbery) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, three children were born. The couple farmed near Nashua until 1969. Al was active at St John’s Lutheran Church, where he served on the building committee and boards. He decided later in life to go back to school and studied Building Materials Management at Area I (now NICC) in Calmar, Iowa. He worked at various lumber yards after completing his education.
The family moved to Cresco in 1972, where he served on the City Council and worked for Featherlite. Albert had the privilege to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in October 2010. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He had no favorite teams and enjoyed watching them all.
Survivors include his son, Robert (Ruth) Schluter; daughters, Connie (Steve) Matt and Janice (Roger) Sommerfield; seven grandchildren, Christine (Dan) Juhl, Laura (Mike) Jump, David (Ashley) Schluter, Desmond (Megan) Matt, Tiffany (Adam) Barnes, Chad (Jody) Uhlenhake and Stephanie (Dayna) Uhlenhake; 12 great-grandchildren, Jake, Audrey, Kate, Liam, Nora, Dane, Ethin, Bella, Jaxson, Mitchell, Sydney and Will; sister-in-law, Dorothy Schluter; brother-in-law, Ray (Shirley) Stansbery; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, on Jan. 12, 2021, two brothers, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, a nephew and a niece.
