Historical Society Collecting Caps for Museum

The Howard County Historical Society is gearing up for a special display at the upcoming Mighty Howard County Fair, and they are seeking donations of caps with an agricultural marketing theme or connection. From John Deere to Dekalb, International Harvester to Ford, any cap with a tie to agriculture is welcome. Even old straw hats passed down through generations on the farm are accepted. 

   The society is celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States with a unique tribute to the Howard County's agricultural history. Agriculture has been a key player in the County's economic and population growth since its founding in 1851. Dale Ernst, a member of the society, emphasizes the importance of visually displaying 250 years of history and highlighting agriculture's role in the county's development by adding, "I think that what we are doing is important as a way to visibly display how long 250 years really is by hanging 250 hats. We are showing how long Ag has been a major player in the ecomomy and growth of not only our the county since 1851 but also the Country for 250 years.”

   In honor of America's 250th anniversary and the fair's theme, the goal is to collect 250 hats for the display. Joyce Becker, also a member of the Historical Society wants to let me know that, “We are hoping that an Ag based display will bring both new and returning visitors into the museum during the fair.”
