CRESCO - The Cresco Fine Arts Council has hosted the event, one of the longest-running outdoor art shows in Iowa, since it was established in 1961. This year, it takes place on Sunday, Aug. 7 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Artists from around the Midwest gather at Cresco’s Beadle Park each year to showcase and sell their work.
This year, members of the Forte Milers Barbershop Chorus will sing, food vendors, wine tastings, children’s activities and don’t forget a piece of pie!
The public may sign up for the “Creative Cash” drawing and use the money toward an art purchase of their choice; participants must be present to win.
Attendees to Cresco’s Fine Arts Show are invited to stop at the Cresco Chamber Fly-In Breakfast at Ellen Church Field south of Highway 9 West in Cresco from 7:30 a.m.-12 p.m. for omelets and pancakes before or after attending the art show.
Moore, Fine Arts Show judge
Mr. Ben Moore, of Luther College in Decorah, will serve as the judge for the 2022 Cresco Area Fine Arts Show, to be held on Sunday, Aug. 7 in Beadle Park.
Moore earned his B.A. in art from Luther in 2001 and his M.F.A. in painting from the University of Iowa. He also studied print-making and drawing in Venice, Italy.
He was an adjunct faculty instructor at the U of I and also at Kirkwood Community College. He returned to Luther in 2008 as an associate professor of art and teaches all levels of painting, drawing, print-making and 2-D studio practices at the undergraduate level. He was recently granted tenure at Luther and resides in Decorah.
Mr. Moore recently returned from Nottingham, U.K., where Luther College has been sending students and faculty directors for a year of study and immersion in British culture for 50 years.
The program not only encourages the participants to experience a new culture, but also requires students to live in close community with one another. They share a living space and come together for evening meals almost every day of the week. According to Moore, it is a unique educational goal of the program. You learn how to live communally.
