Lime Springs man arrested

LIME SPRINGS - On June 4, 2022 at approximately 10:10 p.m., the Howard County Sheriff’s Office was called to a vehicle in the ditch, south of Lime Springs on Oak Ave.

The caller reported an intoxicated male standing in the road near the vehicle.

Responding deputies encountered the male on Oak Ave. near the vehicle. The male was intoxicated and making suicidal and homicidal threats. He was taken to Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco for a mental health evaluation.

Chief Deputy Ryan VanDeWalker identified the male as Dean Thomas Johnson, age 42, from Lime Springs.

Deputies located an unloaded .44 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and five .44 caliber bullets in the vehicle Johnson had been driving. He was later arrested at the hospital and booked into the Howard County jail. Johnson is charged with possession of a firearm as a felon, possession of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated and 1st offense operating while intoxicated.
