Ihns leaving H-W

CRESCO - Supt. Ted Ihns will be leaving Howard-Winneshiek CSD after being head of the school since 2017. He accepted the position of Supt. at Indianola CSD, which is located 12-15 miles south of Des Moines.

“It is the right time,” he said of leaving his home school, having graduated from Crestwood. “I love the time here. I feel I was able to accomplish a lot of things.”

He will miss the people. “We have great students and great staff. This was an opportunity both personally and professionally. It’s a bigger challenge for me.”

Indianola is a town of 16,000, with 3,700 students and is a 4A school. “They have a huge commitment and vision for their future. What they want is also what I believe. It all aligns with what I want,” he said.

How-Winn has a lot to offer students, staff and administrators. Ihns can be proud of being instrumental in getting the new addition between the K-8 and high school buildings started and being superintendent during some great athletic and academic years, but he is most proud of his staff.

“The staff is truly committed to our kids. Our kids are learning at high levels, and the staff is taking on great things. We were fortunate to be able to start in-person learning in August 2020, business as usual, after COVID cancelled school in March 2020. We went forward and made sure the kids were in school.”

All-in-all, he noted he has really appreciated his time at How-Winn, but is looking for more challenges when he leaves June 30, to start his new chapter at Indianola.
