First 2022 road fatality in Howard County

LIME SPRINGS - Howard County experienced its first road fatality after a car versus semi accident at approximately 9:39 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, according to Iowa State Patrol.
Julie Jo Pavlovec, age 60, of Lime Springs, Iowa, died at the hospital after her 2020 Jeep Compass Latitude crossed the center line, near the intersection of Hwy. 63 and Major Road. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The Jeep hit a Martin Brothers Distribution semi driven by Dean Eugene Cross, age 53, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, who was wearing a seat belt.
Both vehicles ended up in the west ditch.
Traffic on Hwy. 63 north was detoured by Lime Springs Fire Fighters at 50th St. (Hayden Prairie Road) going west and turning north at James Ave. and meeting back up with Hwy. 63 at Chester, where the fire department members directed traffic going south.
Both vehicles had front end, driver-side damage. The semi had disabling damage, and the Pavlovec SUV was totaled.
Pavlovec had to be extricated and was transported by LeRoy EMS to Regional Health Services of Howard County.
Helping at the scene was The Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Chester Fire Department and First Responders, LeRoy EMS, Lime Springs Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted with this accident.
