Vehicle vs. buggy leaves Amishman with head injuries

An Amishman was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester after a vehicle versus buggy accident on Saturday, Feb. 9 on A-23, the Granger Road.
The accident occurred at the corner of A-23/45th Street and Timber Ave. at 2:19 p.m., when Howard County Sheriff's Department was called.
Steven Jay Jensen, age 50, of rural Cresco was traveling eastbound in a 2012 Ford F-150, when Phillip LeRoy Yoder, age 23, also of rural Cresco, driving a horse and buggy westward, turned left in front of Jensen, who was unable to stop. He struck the horse and Yoder was thrown from the buggy on the roadway. The Ford F-150 went into the south ditch, while the buggy came to rest on the north shoulder. The horse crawled into the ditch, where it died.
Jensen, and his passenger, Michael McIntyre, were uninjured. Yoder was airlifted to St. Marys by Gundersen Air with serious head injuries.
Assisting at the scene were Cresco Fire & Rescue, Regional Health Services of Howard County Ambulance Service, Howard County Secondary Roads Department and Cresco Towing and Recovery.
The accident is under investigation by Howard County Deputy Tim Beckman.
This is the same intersection where John Borntreger was killed in another buggy versus vehicle accident in September 2016.
