LIME SPRINGS - Sweet Corn Days (Aug. 12-14) is bringing a little bit of Vegas glam to Main Street. Straight from Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Crush will be playing as the headliner for the Saturday night (Aug. 13) musical entertainment from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
Brian Lewis as Elvis will be Rockin’ the ‘60s as the opening act.
Other music for Sweet Corn Days include, on Friday night, 7-9 p.m., Doc’s DJ and 9-1 is American Standard Band. 
Then on Sunday, Ecumenical Church at Brown Park will be Cowboy Church, starting at 9 a.m. Tim’s Mobile Music will be playing at Brown Park after the parade until 5 p.m.
Free, free, free
Going to festivals can get expensive, when paying to get into events or signing up for different things. 
For the most part, other than food and beverages, everything is free at Sweet Corn Days.
• All weekend, sports enthusiasts can watch ball games at the ball field.
• Friday night, there are waterball fights at the fire station, starting around 6 p.m. Then there is a DJ and band on Main Street from 7 p.m.-1 a.m.
• On Saturday, visitors can watch Kayak Races at Lidtke Mill Pond; check out the Tractor Show on the corner of Center and Merrill Streets; watch the Saddle Club’s Fun Show at Echo Valley starting at 10 a.m.; attend the kids’ carnival at Brown Park from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; watch the bean bag tournament, starting at noon; watch the UTV Obstacle Course at A&K, starting at 1 p.m.; watch the kids participate in the Kid Power Pedal Tractor Pull at Brown Park at 2:30 p.m.; go on a 13-mile bike ride; husk sweet corn behind the Library at 3:30 p.m.; watch the Duck Races at Lidtke Mill Pond at 5 p.m.; listen to music on Main Street from 7 p.m.-1 a.m.
• On Sunday, visitors can attend Ecumenical Church at 9 a.m.; and have free watermelon starting at 10 a.m. and sweet corn at 10:30 a.m.; the Classic Car Show starts at 11 a.m.; the parade starts at 1 p.m.; and Tim’s Mobile Music will play at Brown Park from 2-5 p.m.
New events
There are always a few new events for the Sweet Corn Days festivities.
All weekend
• This year, the Pool & Parks will be having the food stand at the ball park.
• Lidtke Mill Bingo will be at Family Fun & Fitness on Friday night, from 4-8 p.m.; Saturday, from 1-5 p.m.; and on Sunday, from 2:30-5 p.m.
Saturday
• Kayak Races and Games will be taking place at Lidtke Mill Pond, with registration starting at 9:30 and the games starting at 10 a.m.
James Kitchen has some fun and wet activities planned, including frisbees on the water, obstacle course and perhaps tug-of-war, among others.
• A Kids’ Carnival will be at Brown Park for kids of all ages from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be games, activities, bouncy houses, a kids dance and the Balloon Guy (Also on Sunday from noon-4 p.m. at Brown Park). It is being sponsored by the Lime Springs Junior Community Club. Spring Ahead Learning Center will have the food stand at the park.
• A UTV Obstacle Course will take the place of the usual tractor pull (which took place last weekend) at the A&K parking lot. The event starts at 1 p.m.
• Bringing back the Duck Races, the Community Club will have the Ducks at the Dam at 5 p.m. They can be purchased at the raffle booth.
 
Tried and True
There are a few new events, but many are the time-tested favorites of many.
• A person can’t celebrate Sweet Corn Days without a cold beverage or two. The Beer Garden opens at 5 p.m. on Friday, noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
• There will be food downtown, including brats and hot dogs on Friday; the annual Oneota Club’s Dad’s Belgian Waffles on Saturday, Legion Riders food stand and food trucks from 4-midnight; and the Sunday Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, Moo Mobile, food vendors and free watermelon and sweet corn.
• On Friday night will be the crowning of Little Miss Sweet Corn and King of Corn, as well as a Junior Club program.
• Saturday will have the annual tractor show, Saddle Club Fun Show, Legion Riders Bean Bag Tournament on Main, Kids’ Pedal Pull at the Brown Park, 30-mile bike ride and husking sweet corn at 3:30 p.m.
• Sunday has the annual flea and craft exhibits and Car Show on Main St., the Second Annual Bloody Mary Run and raffle drawing.
Whew! That’s a lot of stuff to do in a short amount of time.!
