St. Patty’s 5K Fix

CRESCO - It may not have been what St. Patty’s 5K runners were accustomed to for the last decade but the St. Patty’s 5K Fix held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, and sponsored by the Cresco Fitness Center, was well attended by adults and children.
The tradition of runners, “getting their green on” continued and there were some leprechauns on hand to take part in the run, as well as festive bar maids and green elves.
“It’s just about coming out and having fun,” said one runner. “I’ve taken part in the 5K, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, for the last three years, so I wanted the tradition to continue.”
Tresa Sobolik said, “We are just here to have some fun and get in a nice walk.”
Sara Blythe and Staci Nicoll were on hand for the St. Patty’s 5K Fix, too. Dressed head to toe in green, they were there for the fun and the run but admitted they missed the Brew and Stew.
Jessica O’Brien, accompanying Sobolik added, “And this is a good start to our healthy summer.”
The Lil Shamrocks Sprint had roughly 10 runners. Children aged 12 and under took charge and gave it their all as they ran the block around the CFC. Brock Voyna, age 10, came in first place with the other children coming close behind.
After the Lil Shamrock Run was completed, it was time to line up the runners for the 5K. The route was explained by T.J. Casper, and soon the runners, and even a few four legged friends, took off, and before you knew it runners were already coming back.
The adult female runner to come in first was Samantha McCarville with Mattie, her Springer Spaniel.
“Before the race, I thought Mattie and I would be following people to the finish line,” said McCarville. “So this is nice.”
First place runner for the male category was Jeremy Stenseth. Young Knute Rogne, son of Chris and Courtney Rogne, age eight, came in somewhere in the middle of the pack. Although Knute didn’t have much to say about his impressive run, dad Chris, shared that he has run five or six 5Ks prior to this one.
Costume winners fell under two categories, group and individual. The group winners consisted of Travis and Amanda Nesburg, Tracy Maurer and Russell Schwanke. Individual winners were Blythe and Sobolik.
Door prizes were given out after the race, as well as water.
In conclusion, CFC Assistant Manager Wendy Bohr acknowledged volunteers Adam and Susan Ollendieck. “And we hope everyone had some fun and a good run.”
