Second road fatality in less than two weeks

HOWARD COUNTY - Just nine days after Howard County’s first road fatality of the year, a second took place.
Alex Patrick Hanson, age 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident, which took place at 10:46 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
Hanson was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6, southbound, north of Cresco on Willow near 70th when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle left the roadway and entered the east ditch, rolling over.
The driver was ejected. The vehicle came to rest in the east ditch, where it caught fire. The Iowa State Patrol reported it was unknown if the victim was wearing a safety belt.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Cresco Police Department, Howard County Sheriff Department, Cresco Fire & EMS, Cresco Towing and Recovery and Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home. The accident remains under investigation.
