QOV given to veterans at NBHF

CRESCO - There were nine veterans who were honored for their service on Saturday, Aug. 28.

 

Sandy Thorson and her crew took advantage of the Harvest Tent venue, during Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest to honor some of the areas bravest.

 

Nate Thorson led the crowd in the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. He explained no government bureaucracy is involved in the making of the quilt.

 

Sandy said she and others make the quilts because of the love they have for veterans. “A Quilt of Valor is not a charity quilt. A Quilt of Valor is not a blanket. It is a quilt consisting of three layers.”

 

Thorson explained the top of the quilt,with its many colors,

 

shapes and fabrics represents the communities and the many individuals that it makes up. “Each stitch in the quilt represents the love, gratitude and sometimes tears of the maker.”

 

The batting represents warmth, comfort, peace and healing, and the backing is the strength.

 

“A Quilt of Valor is priceless. It can never be bought. It should never be sold, it is not a birthday gift or present in any form. It is an award to honor those who have served and comes from the heart of the makers and their community.”

 

Those who received quilts were Kenneth Bruess — U.S. Army and Army Reserve; Lester Fields — U.S. Air Force; Charles Fravel — U.S. Army; Howard Goldsworthy — U.S. Army; Pastor John Harrell — U.S. Marines; Leland Hovey — U.S. Navy; David Jacobson — U.S. Army; Warren Steffen — U.S. Army Reserves; Daniel Thompson — U.S. Army; and Arlene Dotzler will receive one in the near future.
