New teacher luncheon held

CRESCO - New teachers to Howard-Winneshiek and Notre Dame schools are welcomed to the community on one of their training days.
On Thursday, Aug. 11, they met at the Cresco Theatre for a tour by Manager Wendy Lickteig. They then went downstairs to Champlin Hall for a catered meal by McAllister Catering. It was sponsored by Cresco Kiwanis and Cresco Area Chamber of Commerce.
Each teacher received a bag of local merchandise and gift certificates to help get acquainted with the community. Notre Dame teachers had a prior commitment, but received a bag, as well as a lunch certificate.

Wayne Kreitzer of Kiwanis gave a welcome to the teachers and explained what the Kiwanis does for the area. “We meet the first three Mondays of the month. This organization serves children worldwide. Our motto is ‘Kiwanis needs kids, and kids need Kiwanis.’”
The group is also involved in Backpacks for Kids, third grade dictionary give-away, give 3-4 seniors a scholarship, have Junior High Students of the Month, honor several seniors at graduation, clean the bronze statues, recognize a Farm Family of the Year and donate to the food bank, among other items.
“We are looking for new members to help. You are all welcome,” he concluded.
