Model A club visits Cresco

CRESCO - Twenty Hawk A Model A Ford Club rode in eight Model A’s to have lunch at McAllister Catering and Heritage Events Center on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
According to club spokesperson David Lee, it was the last monthly tour of the year. He said the group likes making buffets a destination. With 8-15 cars and occupants, the number of people looking to be fed can take a while on single orders, but buffets allow them to get in and out fairly quickly.
All of the club members enjoy going on one, two or three day tours. The three-day tours can be 350-400 miles long, but along the way they see lots of interesting sights.
Lee joked, “We drive ’em, they break, we fix ’em, and we drive ’em some more!”
It is no wonder there may be little fixing of the machines, which are between 90 and 94 years old. A few riders remember riding in Model A’s when they were younger. Most of them have original parts — the cars and club members!
The Hawk A Model A Ford Club tour had participants from Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls and Muscatine and some from Wisconsin. They take a tour every month from May through October.
Members consist of all sorts of professions — veterinary, business owners and a UPS driver. A person can tell the group are good friends as one man blurted, “[The UPS guy] can’t leave his car without running!” Another was disappointed he didn’t wear shorts more often on their outings!
There is a high likelihood the group may come back to Cresco for a visit, as they were all happy with their meal at McAllister’s. All-in-all it doesn’t matter where the road leads them — the Hawk A club will have fun and enjoy a good meal.
