Mobile Mamma presents at national bullying prevention conferences

—Group invited to speak in Dublin, Ireland next year
CRESCO - The Cresco, Iowa-based Mobile Mamma, a group of mothers dedicated to sharing resources, tools and education to help educate parents and prevent Internet bullying among children and youth, is making news nationally and internationally.
Mobile Mamma recently attended the International Bullying Prevention Conference in San Diego, Calif. While there, representatives were asked to present in Dublin, Ireland at the Worldwide Anti Bullying Conference from June 4-6, 2019.
In addition, they were exhibitors at FOSI (Family Online Safety Institute) in Washington, D.C. Due to this conference, they are now affiliated with the Department of Homeland Security and the program STOP THINK CONNECT, where they met First Lady Melania Trump.
“We at Mobile Mamma are so excited about what we have done in 2018, we cannot wait to see what 2019 holds in store for us.” said Christy Teslow, Mobile Mamma founder and executive director.
Teslow describes how Mobile Mamma became involved with these events:
“I spoke with Lynn, executive director from IBPA (International Bullying Prevention Association). After discussing our organization, she felt the (education) we were providing adults filled a (technological) disconnect between adults and kids that would make us a good fit for their conference,” she said.
She continued, “While in San Diego, we opened for Dr. James O’Higgins-Neal, a child psychologist from Ireland. His organization provides a worldwide forum. He invited us to be exhibitors/ presenters in June of 2019 in  Dublin!”

Educational workshops for students, adults
Mobile Mamma offers hands-on, real-time workshops, tools and resources to parents, guardians, grandparents and other adults interested in learning what today’s youth use as tools to put themselves online. Workshops offer hands-on set up of Smartphones or tablets, conversation starters, the dangers of electronic devices and more.
In addition, its Disconnect 2 Reconnect is a retroactive curriculum provided to the administration, students and staff at schools. The curriculum covers topics that include basic Internet safety, cell phone safety, cyber-bullying, inappropriate contact, revealing too much, predators online, meeting “friends” offline, social media networking, sexting and human trafficking.
Mobile Mamma offers up to five different sessions with staff, students and parents. By providing these sessions, the program offers the same educational information to everyone but tailored to specific age groups and demographics.
Members strive to help school administration officials become aware of new and constantly-evolving trends that will affect their students and give examples of how to approach students with these issues.
For students, Mobile Mamma provides age-specific workbooks. It offers the opportunity, through scenarios and examples, for students to take the more positive approach to a given situation.
Mobile Mamma shows parents what they have been doing or will be doing with student curriculum and provides the educational resources which will allow them to better reconnect with their children.
Mobile Application
Mobile Mamma is working to launch a mobile application that will help adults get a better understanding and handle on what their children are accessing online each day. This application will work with both Apple and Android. It is designed as a safety measure to give the piece of mind to parents that their children are being safe and secure while using their devices.
According to the Mobile Mamma website at www.mobilemamma.org: ‘We are six moms with a passion for sharing resources, tools, and education with other adults who intermingle with children and their devices. We know technology changes daily; we as adults have to be educated enough to keep up with these consistent changes. If we don’t know how to deal with new technology and the potential benefits and potential harms found within, how do we teach our children?
‘The mission of Mobile Mamma is to ensure that everyone from age 5-95 is educated well enough to be safer and smarter online while using their mobile or smart devices. The purpose of Mobile Mamma is to provide a valuable educational resource hub for children and adults.  Mobile Mamma understands that technology is one of the greatest advancements of all time, however, this same technology imposes dangers to our youth, unlike anything we as adults were faced with at their ages.’
