Lucas named new editor at Cresco Times Plain Dealer weekly newspaper

CRESCO - Paige Lucas has been hired as the new Cresco Times Plain Dealer Editor, having started in that position this past Monday, Jan. 29.

Lucas is originally from Waukee, Iowa, where she attended Waukee Senior Highschool. She recently graduated from Des Moines Area Community College in spring of 2023, with an associate’s degree with equal parts communications, human behavior, and biology.

Having worked full-time through her studies, she has previously worked in banking, first at Greenstate Credit Union in Ankeny, and then Kerndt Brothers Savings Bank in Decorah. 

Writing has always been a passion for Paige, and she enjoys reading in her free time. Moving from the larger Des Moines Area has been a big change, but a welcomed one. 

It’s “quieter and more relaxed” she said, when describing the communities around here. The people have been “nothing but welcoming”.

She likes to visit Barney’s with her boyfriend on the weekends and frequents Decorah to see some of her new friends and old co-workers. 

“We’re very excited to have Paige as the new editor and she’s already pounding the streets for stories around town,” said TPD Publisher Daniel Evans. “This is her first experience as an editor, but she’s a hard worker and someone who tends to learn fast.  Of the stories she’s already submitted, all are very well done and interesting.  Really looking forward to working with her and to see what she’ll bring to the TPD in the near future.”

Evans has been the interim editor for the past several months, with much help from staff Nate Troy, Theresa Hudecek and Betty Schmitt.  Evans will remain for the next several weeks (helping out) until Lucas is acclimated with the new position. 

“We’ve been without an editor for several months and I’m just so blessed to have a staff that would step it up to help with the challenge,”  praised Evans. “Just looking forward toward having a complete staff and to get things back to normal again.”
