Lots to do at Cresco’s NBHF

Cresco - Get ready for some fun! Cresco is sponsoring Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 20-23.
Most of the events of the weekend are staying the same, but there a few changes.
Thursday is the annual Accura Healthcare Tractor Show from 3-6 p.m. Check out the tractors and visit with residents.
Friday starts out with Inspire Day at the Borlaug Farm. Fifth graders from several different school districts will enjoy learning about Dr. Borlaug and perhaps come away being inspired to change the world. The public is invited to visit as well from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
The opening ceremony and Borlaug dedication is taking place at Beadle Park at 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., one of nine young ladies will be crowned Little Miss Cresco.
Don’t look for the annual NBHF 5K Run/Walk/Bike event on Saturday morning. If you do, you missed it! The fun activity has been moved up to Friday night, starting at 6 p.m.
At 7 p.m. is the Bags Tournament at the Harvest Tent with a D.J. to entertain.
Saturday is the big day. Participants can split their time at two different areas:
• City of Cresco: The Cruise to Cresco is from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Elm Street. The craft market will be from 10-6 on Elm St., just east of Beadle Park.
The ever-popular RHSHC Hospital Auxiliary Quilt Auction begins at noon in the Harvest Tent.
The bouncy houses and the balloon guy for the kids is from 1-4 p.m., and the bouncy houses are open again, from 5-7, leaving time to enjoy the Harvest Fest Parade, which starts at 4:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds. It proceeds east on 6th and turns onto Elm St.
At 7 p.m. is a new event — a steak cook-off. There is still time to sign up. Winners will be announced around 9 p.m.
Also at 7 p.m. is the big screen game night as the Hawkeyes take on Wisconsin. For those not interested in the game, have fun with the D.J.
• Borlaug farms: Shuttles will be going out to the Borlaug farms all day. At 8, the Borlaug birthplace barn opens until 8 p.m. Guided tours at the boyhood home (Yes, there are two different homes!) are from 8-5:30. Horse-drawn hayrides and draft horse field demonstrations will be held from 9:30-2:30.
The Sopha Sisters will perform periodically from 10:30-1:30.
The Borlaug birth place barn dedication takes place at 11 a.m.
After all the excitement from the past three days, Sunday is a little less busy!
The annual Crestwood High School Choir omelet breakfast starts at the school at 8 a.m.
The fun at the Borlaug farms continues with the birthplace barn open from 8-8 and guided tours from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. to close out the weekend.
