Lime Springs City to receive laptops through CARES grant

LIME SPRINGS - City Clerk Jane Tibbals told Lime Springs City Council members a laptop program was available to cities and counties in Iowa. There is $9,500 available for specific models of laptops. In case employees need to work from home, due to COVID, the computers can be taken home.

Tibbals figures there will be enough funds for three. The grant is not to be used for software/programs, only equipment.

• In other business, the City attorney is still waiting on a title report for the Tienter building on Willard St. Mayor Chris Chilson stated, “Hopefully before long, we can call this a bad memory.”

• There was no new information on the Merrill St. bridge.

• Council discussed a little more on how to proceed with Jackson St. — either replace sewer and water and repave the street or just repave the street.

Visitor Dale Schwade spoke up. “I was visiting with Ed {Greiman of Upper Iowa Beef]. He said money will be available for meat packing plants. You should see if they would be willing to work with the City on the sewer. Now is the time.”

It could be beneficial to both entities to work together if each is in need of a new or different sewer system.

• A resolution was approved to transfer the school park property to Richard Cottrell, who was the high bidder at a previous meeting.

• The RISE report was approved to be sent to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

• Council approved closing Main Street from Friday noon, Aug. 13 to Sunday at 5 p.m., Aug. 15. In addition, barricades will be used where needed.

It was also approved to hire two off-duty deputies from 9-12 on both Friday and Saturday nights at a cost of $50 per hour for each.

The parade is starting at A&K bin #2 and travel down West Merrill, then onto Center St. and continue on Willard.

Council approved a liquor license for the Community Club.

• Council approved the new LP contract for $1.47 per gallon for the 2021-2022 year with K&H. The previous contract was for $1.34.

• Council approved to allow the American Red Cross to use the community center as a disaster shelter.

The next Lime Springs City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the community center.
