CRESCO - Newborn Ryer Allyn Rose became the First Baby of 2023 when he made his appearance on Jan. 2 at 8:31 a.m.
The little prince joins his parents, Courtney Meyer and Nic Rose of Schley, and big brother, Greyson, age seven. He was seven pounds, nine ounces and 19 inches long.
Grandparents are Todd and the late Lori Meyer of Waukon, Iowa; Mark and Becky Martins of Waukon; and Lynn and Lorna Rose of Plainview, Minn.
Mom started having contractions around 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day. About 13 hours later, her water was broken, and Ryer was ready to meet the world! “It happened so fast!,” Courtney said. “The midwife called for the doctor, and the doctor didn’t make it in time!”
Of all the relatives, Grandma Becky was the most excited that little Ryer was arriving.
Greyson was originally hoping for a girl so he wouldn’t have to share his toys, “but now he’s excited, although he has been scared to hold him,” explained Courtney.
The couple combined their last names (Rose and Meyer) to get his first name and added Nic and his dad’s middle name of Allyn.
Both parents are thankful for the care they have received at Regional Health Services of Howard County. “It’s been great here,” said Courtney. All the nurses were really good and made it less scary. It’s almost like family. That’s how much they care.”
Nic agreed. “It’s a blessing this hospital is so close. They take care of you.”
Even before the family left for home, Ryer was a good baby. “He is eating good and sleeping good.”
The boys will eventually share a room, but for now, the newborn will sleep in Mom and Dad’s room.
Nic was pleasantly surprised at all the nice gifts offered by local shops. “Thank you to all the businesses who gifted us and Ryer.”
Courtney smiled, “This won’t be Ryer’s last appearance in the paper. Someday he will be in the newspaper for sports!”
Those giving gift certificates or Cresco Chamber Dollars to the first baby of the year include CUSB Bank, Regional Health Services of Howard County, Plantpeddler, CIA Insurance, Little Birds & Furniture Re-Do, Sue-Z-Qs and Fireman’s Inn.
Businesses that gave gifts were O’Henry’s Stitches & Prints (blanket), Holstrom’s Gift & Jewelry (silver spoon) and Times Plain Dealer (year’s subscription to the newspaper).
Congratulations to the happy family!
