It’s ‘A Starry Night’ at Crestwood’s Prom

CRESCO - The Crestwood High School gymnasium was transformed into ‘A Starry Night'’ for Prom 2018, adorned with twinkling lights, large blue and yellow stars suspended from the ceiling and props evocative of painter Vincent van Gogh’s famous 1889 painting.
Students and their family and friends swarmed the school cafeteria ahead of the grand march for pictures.
Katlynn Hauber, a junior at Crestwood, says she anticipates the fun of getting ready for the prom. “I like getting ready and hanging out with my friends. Opportunities like (prom) don’t always happen,” she said, adding that she and her friends went out to eat and took advantage of the spring weather to take outdoor photographs.
Crestwood senior Megan Ferrie said she also enjoys going out with friends. “This is the only time of year we get to dress up like this,” she said.
Crestwood students Carlos Beascochea, Kayla Hruska, Keelee Andera and Ryan Steffen said they traveled by bus to Rochester, Minn. for their pre-prom afternoon.
“We ate at Texas Roadhouse,” said Steffen. Andera adds, “Our bus driver bought us all frozen yogurt.”
As 7 p.m. drew near, the crowd of spectators assembled in the gym were treated to the Grand March, where students filed out onto the floor as couples, singles and trios. A prevalent trend for prom gowns this year is long, formal dresses in shades of navy, burgundy, royal blue or black, the skirts adorned with brightly-colored spring flowers. Tuxedo colors branched out from the usual black and included colorful jackets and accessories such as walking sticks, top hats or two-toned dress shoes.
Recognized for their contributions to the Crestwood Prom were Curtis Trees and Gifts, the high school prom committee and students, the parent after-prom committee, high school staff chaperones, the high school janitorial staff, Shelly McAllister, Tanya Riehle, Darla Vokaty and Anna Schmauss.
After the dance, an after-prom party was held at the high school.
